Long Range Target model.
I encountered one earlier today that has a brown laminated stock, with a wide, free floated forend at my LGS earlier. Serial number dates it to 1994.
I don't remember that finish being around during that time period...But admittedly, I was busy with other things back then.
Anyone know anything about these?
And yes, I'm highly likely to own it in the very near future.

I had exactly the same thing in .223. I think mine was a 2000 vintage.

2000...That's about the time I thought the gray finish was being offered.
Just didn't think it was around yet in 94?

I have one now I bought off GB a few months ago. I’m doing load development now and upgrading my front rest at the same time. I topped mine off with an older, same vintage B&L elite 4000 6-24x40. About the same time. I also picked up a new Hawkeye predator in the same cartridge. It’s still new in the box, but I was thinking of having a shoot off between the two to see which one would be more accurate.

It belongs to the shop owner. That little tidbit of information wasn't disclosed to me yesterday.
I texted him earlier, and he said he was getting 1/2 MOA @ 100 yards with Remington factory ammo...So I told him that I'd be in next week to claim it.

Yeah, those brown nutmeg laminated target stocks were definitely a thing in the mid 90s on Savage varmint and long range models.

Savage used them on heavy barrel target setups like some 12/112 series or similar with that wide, free floated forend for bench work. Laminate was popular back then for stability in different weather brown nutmeg was one of the common factory options alongside gray later on. Your '94 example sounds legit.
