Ruger P series Decock Pistols

I recently picked up my p91 and I am loving it. I decided to sell my p89 and get a decock only version. Am I the only one who thinks the decock only versions are tighter and better made? I am wondering if the slide production was really tightened up since they came after the p89 manual safety model.

My first gun is a P90 decock only model and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My first p-gun, P89, was/is a decocker. Everything since gets compared to her. I not sure if it's just what you get used to or they are better. someday I think I am going to get rid of all my safety guns and get them in the DC version.

I'm a snob. I only have DC guns so not really sure. The few safe style I have had I sold too fast to notice.

I would think the slide is the same on both styles but the safety lever is wiggly if you know what I mean.

All my guns shoot better than I can. HAHA

$400 is a lot for a P89DC. All mine come used and are still great. I have noticed the stainless 89s have gotten a little more money recently but I would stop there. Another one will come along.

Of course it is only money.

Also if you are on gunbroker there is a cheaper site but I like to go there so maybe I shouldn't tell you....

I have always perfered the decock ones. Never have to wonder if the safety is on or not.

Yeah I bid 350 not thinking about the shipping and dealer transfer. However it is new with everything including the inner wrapping. Also the guy does a 60 day lay away so the wife will not kill me.

I can tell you a couple of mine were a little over priced too so don't feel bad. You will enjoy it I'm sure and if you calculate by a buck a day it would be paid off in smiles in less than a year and a half.

One of the issues I have is keeping mine fed. Bullets are expensive if you go to the range twice a month.

Unfortunately for those who are a little late to the P party prices seem to have gone way up. Shhhhh, don't tell the naysayers here who said the P guns will never be worth anything. I just sold a P85 on GB for $401. But....but.... nobody wants those old clunky P85's :D

I would prefer my P345 had only a decocker instead of the decocker/safety but in practice it doesn't make much difference since I'll let the hammer down by putting on the safety then switching it right back off once the hammer is down. Unnecessary monkey motion but not all that irritating for a pistol I really like.

Yeah prices have gone up. I would love to see a company buy the designs and start making them again with improvements just like the 1911. Beretta has also done that with the original 90 series to Taurus and although owned by them, Stoeger. Word also is that the lcp is also sold by keltec.

The P3AT was made for a long time by Kel Tec before there was a LCP. The LCP is too similar to the P3AT according to many Kel Tec enthusiasts. They got mad because of a remark made by someone at Ruger about starting with a clean sheet of paper for the LCP design.

I have 4 safety and 5 decock P series pistols, my first was a P-944 safety. I like both styles and have never had any problems with either. For CC i carry a SR40c, but i would prefer a decock model if i was to CC a P series pistol. As for quality, i can't say that any one of them is better than the others. I like the KP-91DC and KP-944 the best but they are all solid and dependable.

I prefer the KP90DC but my son prefers the safety. It often boils down to prior experience and personal preference.

having had my p90 for years, the mechanics of manipulating the saftey is second nature and requires much less time than decision to use it. for me, i like the saftey and i don't get sucked into which version is "best" for tactical reasons.....both sides have good points but points are pointless when the SHTF and the user can't figure out how to work his firearm. in that case, get a DA revolver...........


as for reliable and durable.......my saftey model has seen 1000's and 1000's of rounds over the years and has performed flawlessly and as a result has prevented me from considering another/different option for personal protection.
