It can be done but it's not easy or cheap. You'd be better off buying one like the ready-made Volquartsen Cheetah. Or you could convert a factory 10/22M to a pistol, which will require a $200 Short Barrelled Rifle (SBR) stamp along with a new barrel and stock.
the 10/22Mag receiver is a different configuration,its not so much the barrel, its the receiver that NEEDS to be able to handle the "magnums"..as said above, be careful, when using ANY rifle, and cut it down to make it a "pistol"...federal rules and regulations are needed to be followed, hate to see you "lose" all you firearms..... :roll: :oops: 8) :shock:

The charger was not introduced until 2008. They were never offered in 22 mag. The 10/22 rifle was offered in 22 magnum and was discontinued in 2006. As stated there are both logistical as well as legal issues of turning a 10/22 magnum into a magnum charger.
Since the Charger is nothing more that a 10/22 before it grew up, and 10/22's are NOT to me converted to 22 mag....ahh bad idea! As Mike stated, no 22 mag Chargers out there! If such a creature is needed, either start with a new, aftermarket (unpapered) receiver that's capable of being a .22 mag, or just buy a Cheetah.
I don't see why you could not take a 10/22 magnum and just put a 10" barrel on it with a charger/pistol stock.... is that still technically a short barreled rifle since it has no rifle stock on it? I'm sure the government would say yes.... but....
as far as I know they did not make any magnum chargers... You really can't or would not want to try to do it out of a 10/22 or a charger because it's not just the rechambering but the whole bolt and magazine has to be different... longer cartridge.

I am pretty certain you would have to file a form 1 and pay the $200 tax stamp to convert the rifle receiver to a pistol legally. Once it has a shoulder stock and legal barrel, it is a rifle.
Not saying it makes sense; just that it is the law.

You can't convert a rifle into a pistol without the SBR stamp.
The standard .22LR 10/22 can indeed be converted to fire the magnums but it is not an easy conversion accomplished with drop-in parts. If you have to ask, you probably don't need to even think about trying to do it.
A 10/22M won't fit a standard Charger stock.
