Looking to get a 22 charger to haul on atv and in boat. Looking at the 8 &10 inch. Any recommendations? I will be running a silencer on it at times when plinking.

With the silencer factored in, I'd opt for the 8".

That model also comes with a rear picatinny adapter, in case you want to add a folding pistol brace later on.

Thanks, might not always have the silencer on it. But when I can I will. Was leaning toward the 8 with or with silencer. Rat shot won’t cycle in these right.

CCI 22lr shotshell specs indicate 31 grains of projectile @ 1000 fps. That's similar to 22 short specs so I'm guessing semi-auto function would be 'iffy' at best especially with a new(ish) gun. I had to install KIDD reduced power springs to achieve function with sub-sonics (40 grain @ 1050 fps) on a not so new 10" Charger.
I would consider shotshells to be a single load type of operation.

I absolutely love shooting my charger - 10 inch barrel. A brace, Sig Romeo red dot & silencer co sparrow suppressor. It’s fun, accurate and easy for my wife to shoot too. I put a firefly bolt on it and I’m shooting CCI quiet 710 and 835 for extreme quiet. Surprisingly quiet and accurate for me , 1st time suppressor owner.

The 8" Model # 4938 is my preferred choice for use with a shusher...🤫

For suppression, subsonic is the goal and the shorter the barrel, generally the better for that.

A 4" barrel will shoot most HV ammo subsonic, so no need to spend more for sub's.

to each, his own. BUT I'm not sure what is gained by a 4-6" barrel on a Charger platform????

It's not about what is gained, but rather what is lost that is desired. Velocity!

A 4" barrel will send most standard velocity ammo at subsonic speeds, which is desirable when using a suppressor.

Subsonic ammo generally costs more and some semi-auto firearms won't cycle it reliably.

If no can, then it makes no sense to do so.

I’m just reading. Very interesting. What I love about my stock charger with 10’ barrel is the accuracy. Suppressed it’s extremely quiet as well. I can decrease the barrel length to 6’ and increase accuracy / decrease sound? Thanks

Not looking for a 4", but I did find a 6" barrel. Adding a can to that puts me back to a reasonable length with minimal sound...
Shooting under 25 yards, so velocity is not an issue with the charger.

Try a few flavors of factory standard vel and see what your rig generates. A 6" is right on the fence, but I expect you will find something that will do what you wish (y)

Accuracy aside, a shorter barrel will most likely be quieter. To paraphrase my buddy, "the sound of the bullet hitting the squirrel's head is louder than the sound of the shot".

Whether a new barrel will be more or less accurate, who knows until you know?!? I think a takedown charger with a 4" barrel and a can would be the bees knees for a SHTF or GTFO situ.

True, you just don’t know until you try. Sounds like a worthy experiment. I am more than satisfied with current setup. I suppress back and forth with my TX22 TORO with 4.6 barrel. If there is a difference , I don’t believe it’s significant. I shoot mostly CCi 1070’s from TX. I have a firefly bolt on the charger and shoot mostly 710 and 835 quiets.

With that ammo you won't see much difference. Where the shorter barrel will help is with standard velocity ammo that would likely be supersonic from your rig.
