Has anyone tried getting the white serial numbers off of the red boxes? I have several that I would like to change the numbers. Next question is what to use to put the number back on.
Umm, I believe altering the box would remove all value. I don't advise it.collectorruger said:Has anyone tried getting the white serial numbers off of the red boxes? I have several that I would like to change the numbers. Next question is what to use to put the number back on.
Ruger45 said:I would say the boxes are worth more to the people that own the gun that came in them. Than they would be after renumbered to match a gun you don't have a box for. Maybe sell off the guns you have with out boxes and buy ones that have matching boxes and sell off the boxes that have no guns.
I can see no other reason to change the number on a box except to deceive someone you have a matched set and sell it for more money. If you are just keeping it for your own use you're only fooling your self that they are a set. After you die your heirs are gonna sell them as a matched set and be the ones committing the fraud.rugerguy said:nothing wrong with it, but if you do it to perpetrate a fraud, screw someone out of their money, then shame on YOU :(

+1 ...and I don't really care about boxes that much, cause all I have are newer guns, but right is right. The minute you try to put another number on a box, you have perpetrated a fraud. :Dgolferboy426 said:a gun & box with matching numbers is worth more than the same gun in a non matching or non numbered box, thus renumbering a box to match seems wrong to me. Somewhere down the line someone unknowingly gets a fake/forgery. I have no issue removing the number from the box but adding a different one, unethical IMO
