Picked up a shooter - definitely not a safe queen. Wood stock, no sights, tang safety.

Out of curiosity (as with all my acquisitions), I like to know when it was made. The Ruger web site doesn't help on the DOB: Ser is 770-16XXX

Can anyone help?

Thanks - I saw that as well. I was just confused with the 770- instead of 77-

The Mk IIs had 3 digits in front of the "-" but I wasn't sure they came with the tang safety.

My old heavy barrel .243 tang saftey red pad flat bolt made in the year that 70-07xxx were made stayed out to pasture till I was able to find x tall rings for it. Took two shots to get the scope on bulls eye next shots were almost in one hole. I owned the gun for years but never gave it a chance always shooting the new ones. I'll give it more time on the range now that I know how well it shoots.
Have a .243 red pad Ruger No. 1 132-77xxx that does get shot often it too is a great shooter.
