Ruger 77 mag release

I have a Ruger Hawkeye 257 Roberts rifle that is extremely difficult to release the mag floor plate. ! also have a Ruger 77 RS tang safety 270 Win and that mag release is simpler and easy to open the floor plate.
One release operates from exterior of trigger guard and the older operates from inside the trigger guard which is much better. Does any one know if the trigger guards are interchangeable? Also have any of you had the same problem with the Hawkeye rifles. Might as well have a blind mag if problem persists.

The release on my Hawkeye works fairly easily when the mag is empty and gets harder the more rounds are left in the magazine. A full mag takes more effort but not an excessive amount.
