RSSM Box

I have a Single Six Mag only with Varnished Walnuts no Box
I have the opportunity to buy a Box for 160.00, is it actually worth it?
How much will it actually raise the value of the gun. I'm thinking there is
not much to gain spending 160 on a box. All comments appreciated. ps

I recently bought one for under $40 for my shorter barreled SSM, and that's just because I saw it and wanted it. I don't believe it would increase the value much on my gun...unless the numbers matched. The shipper on this one doesn't. For me to spend $160, it would have to come with a spare cylinder.

IMO, that value would be acceptable only if the box was numbered by the factory to your RSSM - if not...………………………….. :roll:

to answer your question, it all depends on "how much" you have in the gun itself? if you got it really cheap, good deal, then a "costly" box will add that much value to the "package", if close to "retail/book" value for the complete package,then it may be OK....to actually pay that much for a more common box, which I feel is the value of the "uncatalogged" ,earlier flatgate boxes , around $150, and the RSSM boxes around here can be found in the $45- 60 value, add any paper work, manual, wrap then that would push it up to around $100 tops....wish I had known we sold one two gun shows back , an early RSSM box, no papers, and got $45 for it, and it was in very decent shape.............
bottom line is the "Pucker factor", just HOW BAD do you want and or need the box.... 8) :roll: :wink:

If the Box is VERY Minty as noted above with everything in it I have seen that price for a box . But it was Very Mint!.

I've seen guys spend $2000 for a box on this forum, and $4000 for a box over on the S&W forum, me, being the "original King of cardboard" going back LONG before most of you even THOUGHT about buying a box for your gun, know what the "normal" limitations usually are, ,so never say never...been there, done that. 8) :roll: :wink:

To me...the box helps sell the gun, regardless of whether it is numbered to the gun or not.
A collection of boxed Old Models will always generally sell better than a collection without.

sorry 'Hawkeye' looked around and Bill E. got my last 2 10" 44 flatop boxes and I gave my wife the last 3 digit LW I got when I was with Don W at the Maumee show, got the got the gun AND the box for $350 "trade"............and the last 10 " 357 flatop box I recall sold to Matt.........hard to find replacements these day and will NOT bid on the internet against my customers...... 8) :roll:


oh and down to 3 black ,with green insides for the RSSE and they have guns in them, so gave them to my wife, she thinks they are "pretty" :wink:
