A local pawn shop has a round top M77 in .270 Winchester for $349.95 in fair condition. It has Weaver bases on it. The bore looks nice. I'm sure I can get it for some less. I find it very comfortable to shoulder and point. What say ye?
Yes, but get rid of those ugly Weaver bases. The Round Top receiver uses the same bases as the Remiington 700 Long Action so there are LOTS of bases out there that fit.
I had a round top .270 with sights years ago - mighty fine rifle. Had Beuhler bases and rings on it with a 2-7x Leupold. Killed my best buck ever with that rifle.
Sounds like a very fair deal, especially if you can get it for some less than the tag price. If you like .270 I'd jump on it. I may have a one-piece Leupold or Redfield type base for it - if you buy it, send me a PM and I'll see if I have it; if so, it's yours for the shipping cost.

The one I had, until I sold it to help pay for graduae school (SOB, SOB, Whine, MOAN), had a 4X Leupold scope on it with Leupold rings and one-piece base. And, it was a .270 Win. I like the Leupold one-piece base, myself.
