M77 bolt question

I have a 70s m77 in .243 can i put a mark II bolt in it? I bought the gun missing the bolt.

Theoretically something might fit but the normal advice would be having the headspace checked.

I don't think it would be quite that simple due to differences in how the tang safety rifles function vs the Mk II. And as Mobuck noted, checking the headspace would be essential.

I have both, I can try it. Right off the top of my head I wouldn't think it would work.

With 1 having a tang safety and the other having a bolt safety. I can't believe they will interchange.

Sorry I forgot! I just walked down and did it.
Both bolts fit ok but they did not function.
Tomorrow I will look at it again. There are some differences between them of course.

Well on that note does anyone have a spare m77 short action bolt they want to part with
