Redhawk 357

As of today I;m the proud owner of a Redhawk in 357 mag 7.5 inch stainless steel !
Been looking awhile for one to add to my meager collection of a 44mag 5.5 ,41mag 7.5, 2.5inch 44mag.
I'm going to enjoy this 357 ,shoots like a POP gun LOL.
Now for the 45colt and all the other barrel lengths. :lol:

Welcome to the 357 RH club! Glad you got what you wanted.

I, too, wanted one of these babies. I bought mine, also in 7.5", about 4 months ago. A real prize.

Chief Redhawk is an awesome shooter. I like to bang the steel plates at 100 yards with it. Shoots absolutely flat at 100 yards.

I'm thrilled to own it.

The factory grips were much too small, so these Pachmayrs fit the hand well. I also put a hi-viz front sight on the barrel.

Looks just like mine HA HA . These seem to be getting harder to find. My serial number puts it late 1984. I like the older Redhawks seems to have been better QC then as to now. Bought a 45colt/45acp when they first came out and had to send it back because you couldn't field strip it and once you got it apart you couldn't put it together again. Unfortunately Ruger only replaced the internal parts hammered it together and said all is well.
Still couldn't field strip it.
Any ways this 357 is going to get used a lot.

I bought its twin but with the original grips for $475.00 at a local Cabelas with the box and all the papers. About a week later I sold it to a LGS for $800.00!

That cool profit. I got mine on gun broker ,was listed on there start bid $800 no one bid and was closed I called the owner and offered them $725 +30 shipping =$755 . I'm not complaining with todays gun prices.

A pal of mine has/had? one of these in 5 1/2". He shot 225grSWC cast bullets at 1425FPS and i'm here to tell you THAT was one asskickin' gun and load. I'll swear it shot flatter than a moonbeam out to near the promised land. He used it as his favorite winter icicle[sp] gun where he lives up in the rockies and and you could knock 'em off [ big sumbiscuits] at a half mile like nobodies bidness.

I own an '84 and an '85, both in 7.5". Never have thought to push a 225grn to 1400+, that's about 200fps faster than I've even pushed the 200's and 210's.

The .357mag Redhawk's live up to their hype - incredibly easy to shoot, but incredibly heavy to carry. Despite their heft, they tend to feel a little muzzle light, nice for pointing and handling, not great for holding on target. On the other hand, it IS nice for smaller shooters who might have problem supporting a heavy muzzle.

If I'm shooting 7.5" or more of barrel, usually I'm shooting 100yrds or more.

My 357 RH was born in Oct. 1984. The original bill of sale was in the box: First sold in Nov. 1984 for $381.

Since I shoot target out to 100 yards, and I don't hunt, I don't load to the max. Rather, I load medium loads right out of the Hornady manual. I use 158 grain projectiles. I've tried 3 loads using 296 powder with the158 grain projectile: 16 grains, 14.5 grains and 13.8 grains.

Out of the 7.5" RH, all 3 shoot flat at 100 yards. Therefore, for target shooting, I simply use 13.8 grains of 296 for the RH. As per the Hornady manual, this load is well below the max recommended load, yet it shoots flat out to 100 yards.

How about you? What's your favorite handload for Chief Redhawk in 357?

I bought mine about a year ago. Love this revolver. I believe mine was made in 1985. 5.5" barrel.

My 357 load so far is 160 gr. kieth semi wadcutter hard cast bullets over 13.5 gr 2400 doing about 1300fps out of my 6inch S&W
I use wheel weights with a little tin added.
Shot some out of this Redhawk just for fun , haven't done any testing as of yet .
But this Redhawk is going to get use for sure.

I have the same Uncle Mike's rubber grip on my GP100 that you have on your Redhawk...Best grip so far of many I've tried on my GP100...
