Naah. Nobody really understands this foolishness.

In rifle terms, the .218 Bee, .219 Zipper, .220 Swift, .221 Fireball, .222 Rem., .223 Rem., .224 Weatherby Mag, and .225 Winchester all use .224 bullets.

The .38-40 is really .400 but the .44-40 is an undersized .43 (.427).

Why do they call it that? Because that's it's name.

I shot a friends ss blackhawk with the 6.5 in. barrel today and loved it. I like the 9 mm option of the convertible but would prefer the stainless. Decisions, decisions.... then there is the stainless GP100 with the 6 inch barrel, decisions, decisions

If I am not mistaken, the 38-40 cartridge is the only true 38 caliber pistol cartridge.

I seem to recall this from an article by Jeff Cooper many years ago.

If anyone can confirm or correct me please do so.

I just read that. In Fighting Handguns, page 44, Col. Cooper was referring to the .41 Colt, in the double actions.

I've also read that many SAA's in .41 Colt have their barrels slug at .40--. I recall Keith writing that the .41 Colt used a hollow base bullet (.38- ?) that would slug up with black powder.

I do not know these things from experience, I am just trying to help out with this topic.

Ah yes, 303 is actually .311. Don't get those bullets mixed up with your other .30 cal. bullets.... :shock:
