In order of your questions: Yes, Yes, No.
What you want to do is a 'piece of cake'.
Any Ruger small frame (single six) barrel will work. The single six front sights screw on. If you find a fixed sight barrel just remove the front sight blade; hacksaw and then grind off flush to barrel. If you try to unsolder it the blue will be ruined. Drill and tap a 6x40 blind hole, use the screw and sight from your old gun. The height will be within the range of your adjustable rear sight. If the rear sight has to be adjusted too high for your liking, file down the front sight. A longer barrel generally takes a lower front sight.
Now having said all of that, my honest opinion is that it would be a waste of money or time if you do the work yourself. The cost would put you close to that of another used gun with no possible return on your investment. I agree with the other posters, find a used gun with the barrel length you want, keep your 1st Ruger and keep it original. Even if you want a non-standard length like 7 1/2" it's much easier and cheaper to cut off a 9 1/2" barrel already in a gun.
The owner of this OM originally with a 6 1/2" barrel, wanted to pair it with his 7 1/2" OM SBH. I started with a 9 1/2" barrel with a bad muzzle, cut it to 7 1/2" and swapped barrels.
The SBH grip, wide trigger and hammer were installed. A SBH hammer normally looks way out of proportion on the small frame. This one has been re-contoured and shortened in both length and height to improve its proportion.
