Pro Mag ??

Yes.

Based on my experience Nope. I didn’t like them. And for me didn’t function well.

I generally go OEM except for PMAGs (magpul) which are excellent. I also have manticore arms mags for my scorpion because the OEM CZs are susceptible to cracking.

I have purchased four for my S&W 3913.
Steel, solid baseplate single stack.
They all worked perfectly. Very glad they did. Factory 3913 mag prices (when you can find them) are insane.

I have a few for my 3914 and they work fine. I have a couple for my Walther P-1 and they work fine. +1 on the insane prices for 39xx mags.

Back in the 90s, I sold dozens upon dozens of ProMag magazines at gun shows and never got any complaints.

They do have a lifetime warranty.

ProMag's steel 10-Rd mag is my mag of choice for my Mini-30....I've also got a pair of their (steel) 20-Rounders that are every bit as good as the (2) Ruger factory mags that came in the box with the rifle....That said, I had to remove, cut, and reshape the springs on the 10-Rd versions to get them to function 100%. On the other end of things, I had to remove the factory followers from my Ruger 20-Rd mags and substitute followers that I removed from 10-Rd ProMags in order to get the Ruger factory mags to run reliably with all 20 Rds loaded.

Do note however, that none of the above has anything to do with Mini-14 Mags....only the Mini-30.
I've never had one single bit of trouble with Ruger factory 20-Rd Mini-14 mags, so I have had no need to look elsewhere.

Magpul doesn't carry a mag for the G43. Looked there first. Thanks for the information. I will use it wisely.

shopping for a glock? oem mags are cheap and reliable.

promag has a reputation for inferior materials and craftsmanship, proned to malfunction so reliability is suspect. I have a few odd brands including promag floating around that came with gun deals over the years. I only save stuff like that to trade or give away.

for high cap range toy mags, you can probably find more reliable than promag. for carry use, probably better to stick with factory.

good luck! 🍻

Seems that the answer depends on which ProMag is being asked about....Instead of asking a general question, it may be better to read available reviews on which specific mag one is interested in....Like I said, in the case of Ruger's Mini-30 I've had better results with the steel ProMags than I have with the Ruger factory mags...but...that was with one particular model of gun in one particular caliber....
Just thinking out loud.

In the 80's they did not have a wonderful reputation. Their magazines for P85/89 were a little rougher looking. They did not have the witness holes or numbers for rounds left. They made that "32 round extended magazine" that only held 27 rounds.
The finish on the Pro-mags was rough with vertical scratch lines. The factory mags were smooth, shiny, and they were only five dollars more. No one was trying to stick them down their pants to concealed carry, so we might have all been wrong about rust resistance. The shiny factory mags all rusted pretty bad in the 30 years since unless they got a regular oiling, while that one Pro-mag you bought, didn't like, and left on the shelf, looks the same as it did the day it was bought. Still ugly as hell like somebody made it by hammering it into shape with chunks of concrete, but no rust.

In the years since, Pro-mag some other magazines for other firearms that people prefer over any other options. They seem to put a lot more effort into making really good magazines for some applications, and just throw some crap together for others.

"In the 80's they did not have a wonderful reputation.".......Yeah, and that was some 40 years ago, which is why I suggested to look up the particular mag for your application and use that particular info to find some up to date feedback.

Like Dwight Yoakam said...."Baby, things change."

Promags for the P-90 were so reliable I qualified with them because I didn't want to dump the Ruger mags in the dirt on tactical course. Promags in the Ruger P- series had a good reputation. The mini 14 ones they made not so much.

back when I was into the minis both 14 & 30 it seemed to me the only mags that were reliable were factory ones.
I think up until this thread I've never heard anything good about pro-mags... one item I think is important when buying a magazine... does the manufacturer put their name on it... not if they were pro or not but the ones I've had that didn't work well had no name on them. If a company is not proud enough to stamp their name on it then I suspect it is trash.

'edit: I just went to Pro-mag's web site and I have to say I did not have a clue about them... they make 50 round drum magazines for a number of semi-auto pistols. "Who and Why"?

MecGar mags work perfectly. Never an issue with that manufacturer. They make a lot of OEM factory mags for major gun manufacturers.
Funny that you say that.....
I use nothing but "standard capacity" MecGar mags in my Browning (FN) Hi-powers and have nothing but good things to say about them....On the other hand, I tried a couple of MecGar's in my two (normally 100% reliable) RIA M1911A1-FS .45 pistols though, and neither one would fire all 7 rounds of ball ammo without some sort of hick-up. I think it was due to the propitiatory follower design that they use for their 1911 mags. Cheap RIA, Springfield Armory, and no-name USGI-type mags run great....go figure.

Back when I was managing gun stores (quite some time ago), ProMags were pure crap---I would imagine they HAD to improve, otherwise they would be out of business... Hell, even Taurus and Rossi improved, but I still wouldn't own any of them... Personally, I'm amazed Charter Arms is still in business! Understand, this is just my personal experience from back then, and because of this, there are certain brands I will never own!
I will say that most factory magazines (no matter who made them for the factory) pretty much ran perfect, at least for me... I'm still using factory Mini 14 and Browning Hi Power magazines I bought over 40-50 years ago---and they still run 100%!
The above is just my opinion, so don't be pissed-off if it doesn't match yours...

Once, never again. I'd rather part out a pistol without mags for parts than support that company.
