Polishing SR9c Barrel

I just bought a SR9c in two tone and have only one complaint so far. The back end of the barrel that shows on the top and right side of the slide, where it says 9mmx19, in my opinion is really finished poorly. Is there a way to polish that part of the barrel or will the slight change of surface effect performance or be dangerous. And if it's possible, has anybody done it with success and if so, how?

No, polishing will not "affect" it in any way, its all cosmetic, as you will not be removing any material...... with the barrel out of the gun and held in a well padded vise,on any 'round' just use a strip of emery paper, fine grit is plenty good and just "shoe shine" it...on any 'flats' just wrap the emery paper around a flat piece, such as a file, and do the same,polish back and forth lightly..........you can always touch up either when they start to get scuffed or wear marks..............remember to keep the surface oiled as it will now be "bare metal" :wink:

Dan, thank you very much for the reply, sounds pretty easy. Is there any way to apply a permanent protective film to the polished part when done or do I just be sure to keep it oiled?

anything you put on ther surface of any parts where there is "rubbing" (wear marks from friction)any coating,finish whatever may start to show and this to ME looks worse...(after all it is only wear patterns,of the slide and the barrel)see this all the time on semi autos...the "polish" looks good, clean, and easy to redo......simply keep it oiled ,we wipe ours down with a 'RIG' rag (sheepskin piece with RIG slathered on into it , RIG is "rust inhibiting grease")works on ALL the outside surfaces of any gun, steel, alloys, plastic and the wood grips as well.

Well? Any pictures of the finished product?

I've thought about doing the same with my 40C, but I figure it would strip off the etching indicating the caliber.

I've not yet decided on if I want to take the chance on rust yet, so no, I've not yet done it.

Yep, it sure does, but I'd still like the etching to remain on the barrel. Kinda shows it goes with the rest of the gun, don't you think?

It's a matte finish, not a protective coating. Can't say for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the barrel were stainless.
