I remember years ago reading about a 3 ball round load called ( The Pawnshop Load ) I don't remember what the caliber was, but I am guessing it was a 38 Special or 357 Magnum load. It may have even been some kind of factory load. I would not ever use home reloaded ammo for self defense after reading many articles saying it's not a good idea to do that. I just think sometime down the road I would to make so samples to try for barnyard pest control.

Some time back, Remington offered that type of load in both .38 and .357. I haven't seen any in years.

I haven't seem any of the Remington stuff in a long time.

But,, decades ago,, I learned to load "Buckshot" loads for myself.

.357 brass.
Speer shot shell capsules.
(3) pieces of #1 buckshot.
Insert the 3 pieces of buckshot in the capsule. (Sometimes,, due to the less than perfect roundness of the buckshot,, gently rolling the balls once, in a single direction, between 2 steel plates, puts a flat side on the shot. It allows for easy sliding of the buckshot into the plastic capsule, w/o cracking the plastic.)
Weigh the loaded capsules.
Use a mild powder charge (such as for target ammo) of your preferred powder based upon the weight of the full capsule.

Fun to shoot at paper to "amaze your friends," or at closer distances,, vermin control.

I did shoot at a dog long ago with this load. (Mom's orders to burn their butts etc, due to the damages they were causing.) Well from about 15-20 yds,, I had (1) of the pellets break skin, and then fell out of the small wound. I only learned of that due to the owner of the dog confronting my mother & myself.
Never tried them for serious close range penetration stuff.

Before a bad car wreck sidelined me, I used to spend many free hours wandering the desert and local mountains, usually with a hot loaded .44 Mag. or .45 Colt with John Linebaugh level loads. Most were definitely hotter than factory ammo, especially since quite a few years back the .357 Mag. and .44 Mag were now downloaded slightly as factory ammo. (think S&W M19 and problems with factory loads. Similar problems with the M29 as well but those not shown in gun rags) I can just see it now. I'm out on a hike and run into a "coyote" bringing in a bunch of illegals or a load of drugs or maybe some dude on the mountain looking to think, "Here's an essy mark, I'll take his money and whatever else." I'm not gonna say, "Hey, wait a minjte Mr. Bad Guy while I change from my nasty reloads meant to blow your head clean off to the more acceptable factory loads so I can be legal" That's out and out BS. You'll either run factory or reloads out on a hunt and I'm thinking you'll most likely be using your reloads. There's that, "I'd rather be judged by twelve rather than be carried out by six." thing to think about.

I have a box or two of those old Remingtons. Gave me the idea to load two .32 caliber muzzleloader balls in a .32 mag. Has been a number of years since I did this, not sure what distance the target was shot at, maybe 7yds. I never did experiment with different charges or powders. Something for another day.

many years ago. Two buckshot in 38 case loaded light so I didn't shoot holes in a metal grain tank. Killed rats pretty well. Tried shot loads too...out of a S&W M-36 for both...buck was better

I have some 44 mag that were bought in a 5 pack, can't remember name they were marketed under but I bought them as a novelty item with intentions on trying them on jack rabbits. Not even sure where they are at now

Corbon also had the "Triplex" load for the 357 mag, if I recall correctly. Three 60gr button collar wadcutters loaded on top of each other.
