I love my P345, but the hammer is painful to pull back. Does anyone sell a modified, more ergo friendly hammer?

Have you ever tried to "palm" the hammer back? My P90 hammer is different but still is such that, to me, it is not the best hammer to thumb back. So what I do is palm it back to cock.

Yes, it is both "stubby" and has "rough edges"... and its small. It also has a seriously strong spring. Filing off the sharp tip/edge may help, but it is so small I would be concerned that it would be even more difficult to pull back with less "purchase"

This is a great gun, will never sell it, just wondered if there was a way to improve its only short-coming.

For those not familiar with what it looks like: (Note: the safety is off and the hammer is cocked...with a snap cap chambered and the magazine removed).

Ok, I got brave and just filed on the sharp serrations, hardly noticeable visually but feels a lot better. Best solution for now, thanks for the suggestion/comments.

The best way to go about this is different grades of wet/dry sandpaper.

Just out of idle curiosity, why are you thumbing the hammer back?

I had tried it every way I could to make it easier, but mostly thumbing with my right/gun hand or using my left hand to reach over and push it down with that thumb if you know what I mean. Pulling down with either thumb was painful. I did file the sharp edges of the serrations down a little and that helps tremendously.

Perhaps the hammer wouldn't be so bad if the spring wasn't so strong. I had a PX4 SC that was easy enough to thumb cock with one hand while holding the gun. I'm not recommending that as a technique, just to compare. FWIW, the P345 conceals as well as the Beretta did. P345 is the best .45 value out there imho.

I think he was asking why you are even thumbing the hammer back.... when normal slide action will pull the hammer back.

I never touch it , I shoot single action and when I want double action I flip the saftey back and forth then Im in double action

Oh.

I practice dry-fire with snap caps. I know, i know, I just like the comfy feeling of snap caps in all my toys. Obviously using the hammer eliminates having to reload after every trigger pull.

I also did a bit of polishing on the hammer serrations and edges. Not enough to cause a thumb slipping on it but just to knock off the shar manufacturing edges. Helps a lot. I don't often hand cock the pistol but this does make it a bit more friendly. I do agree that the P345 is a great bargain in a .45. Mine is very accurate and soft recoiling. Due to it's new recoil design it's much lighter recoil spring makes it very easy to rack. It's my favorite pistol to shoot at this time. Right after I got it I loaded 500 rounds of ammo for it and yesterday had to load up a bunch more.
