OM Single Six "Eagles"

I have been checking our stickies To see if we have something like this here .....I found the grip frame ones but my question is What type of "eagle" medallions should be on a 1966, 1969 and a 1972 single sixes?
Got a feeling that some of my grips must have been changed in the past (?)
They all have the walnut grips but some of the eagles have smooth necks & another has extra feathers on the neck. Should these years SS's all be the same

well I've seen the neck feathers on various medallions of the late 60's era depends if its on the autos or the revolvers, seen them both ways, usually they are like 67-68 BUT as you say,may have been swapped at any time in the past "how many years....??
as for the 1972 thats getting around the time of the "squashed chicken" ( flat, mushed looking silver eagles)

Great collection. after reading the descriptions I think mine are not original grips & eagles.

this one is on my 1966 ss

this one is on my 1969 super ss

this one is on my 1972 ss

First two guns and grips are matched correctly.

Last gun has the poorly manufactured medallions but they may be from 73/74?

If the grips were mine and in nice shape I would pop those out and replace with black eagles. Not suggesting just what I would do as I really dislike those medallions. The sqashed chickens were better than those.

Wow I got a lot to learn ...I was thinking the third gun's eagles were older because of the SR and the extra neck feathers! where as my older guns eagles seem to be cheaper...Thanks for clearing that up

As mentioned, the first two pics show eagles that would be correct for the guns shipped during those times (I call both of those the pre-1966 and post 1966 black eagle medallions as the changed happened in 1966.
The highly polished silver eagle medallion came out during 1971 and lasted into at least 1975, maybe 1976 when the poorly plated medallion began to be used.

No they are not ...look shiny

So the SR script does not denote an older medallion.
I thought for sure the SR script was older ....This is a great place to get an education!

These are the squashed chicken medallions. The first Silver Eagles medallions (SR) on the old models still had the blue escutcheons.

Are my eyes decieving me or do the black eagles in the top two pics look somewhat like the "skinny neck," vs the "fat neck" versions?

yessir, the ones pictured by 308ld are what should be on the 'transition' between the OM blackeagles, , the OM silver (squashed) end of the line for the OM's...if silver hardware, you have later grips, and the one pictured look slike one of the "bad" finish (plating? ) on the early new models...they tarnished from the get go, and do NOT clean up........
gotta remember folks changed out grips, hardware, screws AND medallions from the onset, so never know just what is on the gun, is what it was shipped ( left the factory) with.........
