Thanks for all the replies and info! I also believe the grip frame is not correct. I guess now i am in the market for an XR3 grip frame and grips that would be in similar condition as the gun! Anyone know where I might find them?

If you call Ruger for a letter on the one with the XR3-RED grip frame, be sure to let us know how it turns out.
At this time, there are no small serial number RSS4's or RSS4X's known with XR3-RED grip frame.
To have an XR3-RED grip frame, it would have had to have been shipped by at least late June 1962.

I got the leters for the two revolvers. They both shipped sept 61 as RSS4W. Im in the process of purchasing the correct frame and grips from someone here on the classified section. Thanks to all for the good info!!

Am I reading the SR# right? The top one is 187144 and the bottom one is 187145?

Yes you are. Picked up one at a local gun store and the other off gunbroker about 3 weeks apart. Kinda lucky huh!

Just lucky i guess. Maybe i should start buying lotery tickets. I could use the extra money to spend on these single actions!!
