I got an email stating that my First Bankcard NRA Visa card was now accepted at Costco.

Were NRA credit cards not being honored at Costco before this?

I know for a fact that Costco just moved/improved/upgraded all their credit card operations. So maybe this is part of that.

No idea what their previous arrangements were, but I know at Sam's Club (at least at one time) you had to pay either with cash or with their own (Sam's) card--no others were accepted. Maybe Costco previously had something like that going too.

It was either personal check, cash, or their AmEx card. I despise AmEx :x Now it's Visa

The website says they take only certain Visa cards, one being the Freedom card that I have. My daughter told me it's all Visa cards.

I can probably find out for you tomorrow.

Like the others have said Cary, I think it's that Costco just recently started accepting VISA cards. My wife and I just joined Costco earlier this year. We got the same letter and our credit card is a "Cabella's" VISA card. :D

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
I'm sure it's some kind of banking deal.... they used to have you apply for a Costco American Express card when you joined... now it is Visa.... and they no longer accept American Express (which is all I use for plastic) or Master Card.... my wife asked about it at their service desk here in town a few weeks ago... they still accept cash and checks as well as Visa.

As for Costco and Sam's, they are not open to the public, they are "member-under-contract establishments", and their accepted payment options are describd in the contract you sign with them. Read what you sign. It is binding. AMEX broke their contracts in 2015, and now VISA is accepted by Costco. AMEX is not.

BTW, remember all VISA transactions are "owned" by one company based in Seoul S. Korea. Every single one.

I think they still accept all debit cards... but not totally sure. As for Sam's which is of course owned by Wally Mart... which treats their employees poorly.. Costco it seems is just the opposite and treats their employees like people and does not play the 'only part time' game and so no benefits...

Yup, checked today--Costco now accepts all VISA credit and debit cards from any issuer.

Is there a problem with a company in SOUTH Korea making a buck?

I just got the same memo from Sam's club. Previously they only accepted Their Master-card and Discover cards (because they own Discover).

We've used out VISA debit card at the Costco in Lihue several times to buy gas and other stuff inside the store.
