The rear sight will move side to side .0010-.0015. Any one have a idea of a fix? I was thinking of removing the sight and prick punching the sides and using the burr to take up the slop.

You could glass bed the sight to the sight recess. I'd apply the release agent to the cylinder frame, and let the epoxy stick to the sight base. It would only take a few drops of epoxy to do.

I just pulled & checked about 1/2 dozen NM's I have to see if I had any with side to side play. Very slight movement was barely detected in any of them.
I'm wondering if you have the correct rear sight insert in the frame. There are a couple of different ones. Did you buy the gun new? Used?
If used,,, I'd pull the rear assy out to see if it has a "bump" on the underside or not. Check to see if anything else might be causing the play before adding anything to it.

I checked some of mine as well. No where near that much play. And even though they move a bit, they self center and go back to center after I wiggle them. They don't move on their own even as I adjust them up and down.

Is you sight adjusted extra high? Alloy sight or steel with the eagle stamped on the tang?

You probably have the right sight but it just may have been over finished. Or the space between the ribs is slightly wide. Or both, the space is a little wide and the tang is a little narrow.

Measure the width of the sight tang. I checked all the sights not installed in guns and the tang width varies from .308" to .314"; a .006" variance. If yours is extra narrow, I think prick punching the edges of the tang is an excellent idea.

Or call Ruger CS and they'll likely send you a replacement for free. And it'll have an eagle stamped on the tang which means it's the current steel rear sight.

Just measured and the channel is .319 and the sight is .309. The sight is just up about .009-13. Think I may call Ruger and see what they say. It maybe fine but I know it,s there and just it just bug me.

for "loose" blades or sight body "wobble", simply smear some gun grease into the slot, and a bit of a 'bend' in the cross pin, helps keeps things "tighter"....simple, quick, easy steps............start looking around for "loose" sight assemblies for sale and keep a caliper with you and measure them ALL till you find a wider one..........
most diagrams (drawings) will have a +/- nominal tolerance of .005 in either direction (plus or minus) thus you put an "undersized" sight body in an "oversized" slot in the frame, voila, there is your ten thousandths.. 8)

Got time last night to work on my NMBH sight. After removing the sight and cleaning the twenty years of crud up. Tried prick punching the sides. Using a spring punch the burrs would only raise about .002-3. Thinking maybe this not going to work. As I,m looking to see what else may work. I get a idea punch real close to the edge on the bottom and push metal out! It worked and I now have just a barely detectable side to side move movement! Love it when it go right.
