Haven't shot this "sniper rifle" in a couple years, so I reckon I'll burn some Hornady 45grn .22mag later to see if I'm still a decent shot.

The problem with inexpensive .22 is that it's inherently not going to be as accurate or consistent as centerfire boat tail rifle rounds especially at longer ranges, due to the low BC and MV. When it hits the sonic barrier all bets are off. A standard .22 (lr or wmr) has a BC in the .110 range. The CCI 40grn Game Point has a BC of .133 due to it having a slightly pointier nose than the standard 40grn fmj or the Hornady 45grn. This seemingly minor difference in BC results in a significantly flatter trajectory/greater effective range as shown in the comparison above. I've found many cases in which the price of the ammo had little effect on the accuracy if/when the right combination of gun and ammo was found.
Plus as noted above, the shooter may well be the limiting factor.
I've done the math on atmospheric influences with other centerfire rifles and ammo years ago. Just didn't bother with it for this. You're right, it is all a balancing act and making compromises to get the result you want for a specific combination of rifle system, ammo, and shooter. Not always easy to do, particularly if the target is breathing.Your mention of the lasser BC & lighter weight of the 30 grain will get pushed around more by the wind makes plenty of sense at first look. But then I re-read & picked up on the vel. numbers. saw the 30 is 2200 fps. That vel. increase over the other 2 might might more than make up for it's lesser B.C. numbers.
Then noticed you don't have a crosswind number in your input data. May I suggest you enter a value there, say 10 MPH @90 deg. ? Higher BC's usually win in wind drift over lesser, but BC & velocity is a balancing act. At some point different combos will meet. I started to chart all 3 myself, but just too lazy this morning.
The results are sometimes surprising, especially at close ranges. Hi BC bullets start shining their best at longer ranges.
We're way past chrono's and hand held range finders. The USMC, among others, are buying the SMASH 3000L, initially for anti-drone capability, but it's capabilities make it useful for other purposes also. Ammo BC, and MV out of that specific rifle are pre-programmed, so the system includes that in the targeting algorithm. All the shooter has to do is push a button to lock on to the target, pull the trigger and keep following the target until the system fires the gun at the exact instant for that perfect shot.Oh yeah! modern tech, ballistic software that even a math challenged goober like me can successfully use, along with a chronograph & a range finder changes the game big time.
That's always been the case with weapons tech for all of human history. The guy who invented the atlatl lost out to the guy who improved it by adding a piece of animal gut to a curved stick for better lethality at longer ranges - which we call a bow. It's a never ending competitive race in both the defense and civilian industries to have better stuff than the other guy.Wow! this has come far from thoughts on bullet weights & velocities vs. bucking the wind for a 22 mag.
