New SR-40 just received!

OK! All of you SR-40 experts, lend and ear, and hopefully a voice.

This is my second .40cal auto. My first being a Hi-Power, which is a quite enjoyable piece of machinery.

What should I do to this little beauty before my first trip to the range? Anything in particular to watch out for during break-in? Or does it, or doesn't it, even have a break-in period? Any particular ammo in general that they don't seem to like? And anything else that you can add.

Any help here from the "experienced" would be most appreciated. All of the positive info that I've read about this gun on the internet, and in various forums, is what convinced me to buy it over S&W, Glock, Springfield, Taurus, and the rest of the poly 40S&W autos on the market. I'm anxious to take this out and start some serious shooting. And I don't want to screw things up by making mistakes.

I run 50 rounds threw my SR40 after checking the barrel for obstructions and lubing the slide rails, but it is a good idea to clean and lube the complete pistol before shooting, and that includes the striker channel. The striker channel and striker should be cleaned often for the first few hundred rounds as shavings and dirt can cause light strikes. All my SR pistols except for SR45 have performed flawlessly and have never showed any need for a break in, they all are happy with any brand or type of ammo and are completely reliable except the SR45 is still having light strike issues after about 500 rounds. The SR40 is a great choice and should give you years of dependable service and enjoyment.

I agree...and on these pistols, it's easy to do. No pins to knock out, etc. Plus, while you are in there, you can remove the magazine disconnect...extremely easy to do! Just save it so if you do have to send the gun back to Ruger for any reason, or if you sell/trade the gun, you can put it back in.
