Hey all,
Could use some help with this one. My girlfriend and I went and picked up her new Ruger SR9, cleaned it, and took it to the range today. We shot 100 rounds through it and experienced about 4 or 5 failures to eject.
We also had one stovepipe, but I will chalk that up to her being a new shooter and limp wristing it. I hope.
I am concerned about the failures to extract. It essentially left the round in the chamber and went back and tried to push a new one in (double feed.) It's almost as if the extractor missed the rim. I don't know.
I have many thousands of rounds through my semi auto pistols and have never experienced a FTE/Double feed (except when I set one up on purpose) and I'm rather concerned that we had 4 or 5 in 100 rounds. So, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I would rather not send it in to Ruger but if I can't get it fixed I will have to.
Relevant info:
Gun: Ruger SR9 full size stainless
Ammo: Freedom Munitions 115gr FMJ
Magazines: Factory. Happened with two different mags (not that it seems like a mag related problem anyway.)
Modifications to gun: The only modification to the gun was the removal of the magazine disconnect. This was done for two reasons. First of all the way the magazine disconnect in the SR9 is designed it hurts the firing pin when you dry fire without a magazine. And I don't like the idea of her getting used to putting a magazine in the gun when she wants to dry fire at home. Secondly we both want to try IDPA/USPSA sometime soon and I think you have to show unload and hammer down, which she would not be able to do without a magazine in the gun. Anyway, I can't see how this would cause that malfunction, but then again, I am not a gunsmith.

Second range trip:
1st 50 rounds: 50 rounds of 115gr PMC, no malfunctions.
2nd 50 rounds: 50 rounds of WWB 115gr, no malfunctions.
3rd 50 rounds: 50 rounds of Winchester 124gr NATO (so, higher pressure), 3 or 4 FTE/Double feeds (empty case in chamber, next round being pushed in.)
Then I shot 17 rounds of the Freedom Munitions stuff and got 1 FTE/Double feed of the same type.
