Hi folks,
At the range this morning, I had a few failures to feed about halfway through a full magazine (both new magpul and oem Glock magazines ). I was shooting from reset.
Ammo was brass 115 grain federal fmj. This was my second outing and round count is just under 300.
With each failure, the unfired cartridge would be nearly off the feed ramp and into the chamber yet still in a slightly vertical mid feed position, but the slide for whatever reason just didn’t want to come back into battery fully without a tap on the back from me and then would finally go all the way home.
I then tested with some carry ammo - 147 hst and 124 +p critical duty and there were no such issues through about 4 magazines of those.
I welcome limp wrist jokes and all that as that’s what I’d assume was the culprit if reading this, but I am an experienced shooter and have been carrying and shooting the Glock platform since 2012.
I had noticed through many dry fire sessions that when I would hold back the trigger and cycle the slide to practice some shooting from reset that unlike times when I fully let out the trigger before cycling that it would need a tap / slight encouragement to go back into battery fully. This was with snap caps.
My instinct is that a slightly stronger recoil spring will overcome this resistance and help the slide come back into battery and fully feed. I really love the way my rxm ejects brass in a no nonsense matter and I don’t think going with an oem glock recoil spring that would be slightly heavier (from sources I’ve read) would induce failures to eject -but I’d like to hear ideas on a fix here. I did already order an oem gen 3 Glock 19 recoil spring assembly.
