I just picked up a p85 to go with my sr9c. The 85 has the finish buffed off of the slide for some reason, so a new finish will be needed. The springs in it are so worn, that when I fired it I could actually see the slide moving. Darn good shooter tho, all I have to do is restore it a bit. I will try to get some pics together to show off it's patina

Glad to know that I'm not the only one with one of these things. If you are looking for inspiration on how to re-finish your new boat anchor, look up some of the posts by Truthnotrelative. He did some neat stuff with a P89 and some Duracoat/durabake finishes.

I have to say that I love my P85 MKII. Its not a tack driver but it shoots straight enough and it doesnt mess up. Mags are cheap and you never feel like you need to baby it.

If this is your first P-Series gun it may take you a while to get used to the trigger, but they usually group about 3in-6in @25yds if you do your part.

Good Luck!

I thought the trigger was a bit mushy, but nothing terrible. I am actually thinking of sending it to Robar to get a new finish put on it. That and some wood grips ought to make a nice looking boat anchor :D. I am actually doing all this because it is to remember a passed family member that owned one. It was the only gun that he had, and it was always with us on range trips. That gone is gone, but this one will do as a nice replacement I think.

I have several guns that I acquired and keep for sentimental reasons. I never thought I would be that guy, the one that keeps some old rusty tube with some moldering wood hanging off it because it belonged to So-and-so. The sad thing is that sometimes these things we own outlast us.

Anyway...You caught me getting sentimental...enough of that.

I havent seen a set of wood grips that really looked right on a P-series gun. I prefer the Hogue grips for both practical, cost and aesthetic reasons. But to each their own.

If you get around to re-finishing your P, post pics! Everyone here loves the Project threads that get started from time to time, especially when there are lots of pics.

Cheers
