Need some Help

Hi Guys
I just got a Single six Old Model. From the serial # on the ruger site and the original box it came in, It's a Magnum model made in 1964. The question I have is it came with a LR cylinder. Is it ok the shoot it with this cylinder (It looks like the LR cylinder has been used alot) I just want to be safe and not blow anything up =)

unless you have serious questionability of the metal. it should be fine to shoot.
just dont shoot any mags from a LR cylinder. it will ruin it.

Its perfectly fine to shoot the long rifle cylinder. Magnums shouldn't even fit into the LR cylinder, so that shouldn't be a problem either.

Welcome to the Forum!
First,, you should be fine shooting that SS with either cylinder,, as long as it's timed correctly. (Most of the time thay all work quite well.)
Now,,you may have a model known as "RSSMX" if it was shipped with the extra 22 LR cylinder. Those models were made between serial numbers 324338 & 340086. Now there are a few scarce to rare variations of these guns. It has to do with grip frame types, eagles on the barrel or not, etc. More details will help identify which one you have. We'd need the grip frame marking,, (XR3, XR3-RED,) and does the barrel have the Ruger eagle symbol or not?
A quick call to Ruger Records will verify how the gun was shipped. Have the serial number handy,, and politely ask the nice lady to give you the correct model info AND the manufacture date. (Their website does have a few mistakes.) However they will NOT have the detailed info I posted above. Just the basic model (RSSMX) and the month & year of shipment. Give them a call at; 603-863-3300 & ask for records.

If you look carefully at the barrel-end of the cylinder, between each chamber, you will see engraver-scribed serial number of the frame to which the cylinder was originally timed. If the last several digits of the frame serial number exists in that location, then the LR cylinder was factory-matched to that firearem.

You may have to clean it well, and perhaps even scrub it with a ss bristle-bruse to see the numbers, as they were not machine/die stamped. They will have the appearance of vibrating-pencil, hand-writing.

I'll call the Ruger customer service and see what they say.
What I have found out so far is the serial # is 3816xx,it has the XRC-Red grip frame, The Magnum cylinder is marked with same last 3#'s as the gun,The LR cylinder is not marked that I can see (But seems to be well used), It has a 6 1/2 in barrel, And only has the makers name on the barrel and the Ruger eagle on the left side on the gun with single six and caliber.

THAT is a nice gun to have I have a 354XXX & 359XXX with the XR3-RED grip frame to--- I have never seen a gun in your serial # range very 8)I just remembered I have388892 it has a alloy ejector housing & is my shooter.

I really should call Ruger about mine one of these days. Its a 6 1/2" convertible my dad bought new sometime around '63/64. It has XR3-RED grip frame and no eagle on the barrel. Serial 368XXX and no numbers on either cylinder (I've scrubbed and looked and looked).

I have the same deal on my 359XXX gun the gun & cylinders look NIB---- NO numbers--- My 354XXX gun has the numbers scribed on the 22 cy. go figure :? BOTH lettered 1963--RSSMX--steel ejector housings on both guns.
