Good evening. Local shop has 2 trade-in, stainless single-six, 6.5" vaquero sight,22lr cylinder only. Previous owner shot cowboy action for awhile. Both actions have been tuned up I guess. No boxes. I can't find any similar revolvers online to base a fair offer. Both pistols appear well cared for. They have home-made ivory looking grips that aren't very pretty I guess. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I'm sure I'll end up with one at least so I'll post pics and probably cry over what I'm going to spend. Lol. Thanks for any help. Dcl

You can always buy replacement grips.
What are they asking for them?
From this info it seems they’re well used ( CAS ) with wrong grips and Lord only knows what mess lives inside if they been “tuned up”.

Give Ruger a couple of years they seem to bring firearms back every so often.
I think $400 would be fair for them and maybe little high for you since it has one cylinder and wrong grips. My guess is they'll sell them at $400. I would personally ask $450-$475 for them and see where it went from there. They are a fun gun.

Here’s another recent one that sold for $540 (+ tax, + shipping, plus transfer fees on your end), but it was a “Convertible,” with two cylinders. It also has the Ruger “billboard,” which I don’t care for… but that’s the way it came: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1177369703
$500ish would be the asking price I would expect to see on the example described by you… perhaps with a little room for bargaining.
I agree with you- I think $629 is pretty high for a used example, especially with questionable grips and unknown modifications. Flip side: if the action were “tuned” by a famous single-action ‘smith (Bowen, Harton, et al), all bets are off!
Dan, aka rugerguy, might reference “the pucker factor,” in that scenario!
Another one will come along, especially if you watch the auction sites.
I remember Mike Reber (“acrylictnk”) selling a pile of them here in 5.5” and 6.5” barrel lengths, a few years back. I also recall that he gave us a nice discount off MSRP, as was his usual practice!
Uncle Howie is spot on, and we too miss ole Mike R., he had some awesome deals back when,,,,he was from up around here too way back,,,,used to build aquariams, thus the name he used........
These two in the top of the picture are SINGLE cylinder limited editions that I bought for SASS practice. The ones you are looking at could also be the same. They were not all that popular because they were 22 LR only and high priced. Just for the record just because a gun is used or slicked up for SASS doesn't mean it is junk. All of mine are probably better than most.
If you want a gun to just shoot, I see no downside to not including 22 mag cylinder. As for condition and quality of 'tuning', that's a big ? that really can't be answered by long distance.
Keep in mind there's a BIG difference between a 'shooting gun' and a potential collector gun.

Don't hold your breath waiting for a come-back. They now have the "wrangler" for cowboyz, priced "competitively". I handled one of these a couple of days ago and changed my mind to "worth having".
