This is a given: I've convinced myself I need a single-action revolver.
This is another given: Because I have several gift cards and a coupon, I'll do best by making my purchase at Cabela's.

That said, I'm trying to get an idea of the advantages/disadvantages vetweeb a Single-Six and a Bearcat.

I know the SS is larger and heavier and has the magnum cylinder.
I did handle a Bearcat today and feel it fits my hand just fine.

I suppose what I'd like is to hear from some of you who own both or have fired both; wondering whether there are differences in construction, trigger pull, reliability, etc.

Since I'll be using it to punch holes in paper, the magnum cylinder is not really an issue. Also, at Cabela's, the prices on the two are so close as to make no difference.

And another question: I'm also considering a Heritage Rough Rider. I know Ruger fans feel it's not in the same class - but is it the same size as the Bearcat?

You don't have a problem. Just buy both. You know a bird can't fly with one wing, got to have two!!!

A Heritage is closer in size, weight and balance to the Single Six. I prefer the Rugers to Heritage for their fit and finish, sights, reliability, durability and better aesthetic appeal. And that safety on the Heritage? Just can't handle it.

I'd have a hard time choosing between a Bearcat and Single Six if I was only planning on using .22LR. That magnum cylinder is an awfully attractive feature

I'd ignore the Heritage,, especially if I had a bunch of discount cards & gift cards. Next,, get the Single-Six,, you'll NOT be sorry. Then, later ADD the Bearcat.

JMHO

The Bearcat is a very nicely-done mimimal-sized revolver. Materials and workmanship are great. It's likely the only modern single-action properly scaled to the .22 rimfire cartridge. That said, it's a little small for a lot of folks, and the fixed sights are quite limiting.

The Heritage is just not in the same league with the Ruger. If you got a "good one" it would probably serve you relatively well, but ya never know.

The Single-Six is the "gold standard" of the rimfire single-actions. The convertible feature adds flexibility as do the adjustable sights. The grip frame is the same size/shape as used on most of the larger centerfire Blackhawks so the "feel" carries over to those guns when you decide to "move up" . . . which you will. Don't know what else needs to be said.

Good luck. Let us know how it works out.

:)
