Lost wallet

On Friday, I ran a couple errands and took my daughter to lunch.

Torchy’s Tacos. It’s a chain, a little expensive, and too salty if you are interested.

Anyway, later than night I went to the grocery store but couldn’t find my wallet. I looked all over the house and car and called the restaurant. No luck.

I did find it, on the floor in the other room where I sat to put on my shoes.

Anyway, I ordered one of those thin credit card sized tracking devices. It works with your phone and if you can’t find your wallet, it will beep.

This is not an advertisement, and there are several different brands. But I got the one that has a rechargeable battery and is VERY loud.

It was the Ridge brand for $45. And I’m very impressed. Easy to set up and I swear it is exactly the size of a credit card. I don’t know how they do it. It’s got a battery, speaker and on/off button. And light showing it’s charged.

I’ve used the trackers on key chains for years. I don’t use them often, but when I need to find my keys, it’s very nice. Kinda like 4 wheel drive…

Anyway, just a thought.

I put and apple tag on our Fox Hound... the problem is if you need to track it it uses the nearest iPhone... and when the dog ran off a few weeks ago the only iPhone it seems in the neighborhood was mine and so the application kept saying she was at our house or where ever I was ........ maybe if I turned my phone off the tag would find another phone but then I don't have the application running.

Oh and I to went crank up my work van and our other car on Saturday because they have not been run for two weeks, since I fell, and I could not find my van/work keys... had to use a spare... found them yesterday... they were in my pocket.

A tracker actually sounds like a good idea.
I misplaced my wallet once, what a horrible feeling.

It was one of those days, no one was around so I jumped on my IT 250 and hit all the back roads and connecting trails. Had lunch at one of the local watering holes, but pulled the $$ out of an inside pocket in my jacket so no need for my wallet at that moment. About 4 hours later when I got back home and was starting to change out of my riding gear I noticed I didn't have it, I back tracked every road and trail, stopped at the watering hole and inquired. I did find a $10 bill in the weeds along one of the dirt roads. By the time I got back home I figured it was long gone.

Next morning low and behold it was right there in my dresser drawer. Big relief.

I've lost my wallet exactly once in the nearly sixty years that I've carried a wallet and that was last January. I figure that some nefarious person found it and had some fun with the cash. The worst thing is that it is hard to find decent wallets and my replacement sucks.

My wife lost her wallet at the airport. Some Good Samaritan actually found it and mailed it to our house.

We don’t carry cash so none was lost.

I mainly use the tracking device for around the house. Plus I like the technology, it’s fun.

I carry mine in my front pocket now. Some years ago, we took our kids to Disneyworld and went out on the paddlewheel lagoon adventure. I was sitting on the rail watching things go by the whole time. When we get back to the dock the kids wanted a refreshment, so we head over to get some drinks. That's when I realize my wallet is gone! So, I make a beeline back to the boat just as the kid closes the gate. In madman style I jump the gate and the boat railing, as the kid looks on in bewilderment. I race up the steps to the upper deck and as my eyes clear the floor there's my wallet laying precariously on the edge of the deck just waiting for anything to give it the old heave-ho into the drink. I scoot down quick and grab it, just as the kid shows up to find out what in heck is going on. The kid was cool about the whole debacle, especially when I handed him a $20 to overlook the breach. I've always carried extra cards and money in my luggage ever since that nightmare . . . . . .

I have never lost my wallet. Had it stolen once(long story). I have found several wallets and returned them to the rightful owner. But I did lose my pocket knife today, hoping I just left it lay wherever I last used it, have done that alot.

I've lost my wallet a few times. Always either found it or got it back from someone who did.

My wife looses things in the house constantly. I have little remote controlled beepers on larger things like canes. For her phone I have a remote device that can be made to beep from your phone or make the phone ring, even if the ringer is off.

I have found three or four at work over a four decade career and their owners were glad to have them returned. I also watched as a business check ledger and a wallet flew off the roof of a car in front of me. I picked everything up and caught up with the owner, in heavy traffic, about a mile down the road. He didn’t even say thank you…acted as though I was inconveniencing him. It takes all kinds.
I have an Apple Air Tag on each of my two key fobs. Actually came in handy once. Worth every penny.

Back in college, I found the wallet of a guy I knew from a couple classes. I went to a pay phone, called directory assistance, got his number and called him. I told him that I had found his wallet and that I could give it to him the next in class. He said, "Stay where you are, I'll be right there." He lived about a half hour from campus so I settled in to do some homework. He showed up, walked up to me, held out his hand, checked out his wallet, glared at me, and walked away. No, "Thanks man" or "Can I buy you a Coke." I saw no reason to speak with him again.

My husband loses his wallet at times. I ask if I can help him search and he say "no", just reaches into my bra and takes it back!

Actually @Kevin that is a good idea with how easy things can be to lose and some of the workarounds to find stuff, I say a good move for you.

All my important cards and cash are carried in front pockets. Necessary cards in one pocket and cash in the other. I don't carry a wallet with anything important in it. I also have copies (printed from the original) of all my important cards, secured in my house... just in case.

My sister is always loosing something! Keys, glasses, wallet, debit card. I tell her she needs to get a key bowl, what I use. When I come in the door, my keys go into a bowl. I tell her she needs to put her credit card in her wallet when finished, instead of throwing it into her purse or the console of the car. She needs to put her wallet in her purse when not in use, and keep her glasses in one place so she knows where to grab them. Same with her phone. She has been late to work because of her having to tear the house apart looking for one or more of the above.
But come to think of it I am not exactly perfect. I can be working on something, car, house, gun or whatever and loose a tool. I know I had it right there but......... If I could spend half as much time working as I do looking for tools, I could get a lot more accomplished.
The tracker sounds like a great idea. Just gotta take out a bank loan to buy one for everything we lose!

I have a hooks by the front door, one for me and one for my daughter. Ninety Nine percent of the time, I hang my keys up when I walk through the door.

Lost my wallet just as summer began about 30 years ago. Summer is my shooting season. New York State took ALL Summer to replace my ccw permit that was in the wallet. Local judge suggested that I not take the pistols to the range until the new permit came through. They did the whole local, state, and federal background stuff just like I was applying for the first time, though I'd had a ccw for over 20 years. Ticked me off. Shot only long guns that summer.

Dad had just been given a nice new wallet, screaming blue nylon (slippery cordura. We went to the landfill to un load his pickup, an old sweptside dodge with a built baccaruda 383, and later at taco time he discovered he had lost it. It was payday, with over 450 of those 1990 dollars in it. We went back to da dump, calculated where he had parked, and i get out to look around while he checked out under the seat again. I walked around to his side and told him i found it. He was standing on it! Gave it away as soon as he found a decent leather one.

- what exactly is missing?
- did it have specific membership/account numbers (and should those be cancelled)?
- who must I reach to generate new copies?

What a PITA that would be!

I don't plan to lose my wallet, but I don't believe anyone actually does.

Makes me think I should go scan a copy of the contents as a precaution, just so I could recall what I must replace.

Havent lost my wallet since i hung it on a chain in '76. Still the same piece of kerb-link dogchain, new wallet every year or 3. I preferr zipperred, they keep more dirt out.

I changed to one of those thin minimalist wallets about two years ago. I carry a credit card and drivers license. Nothing else besides that tracking device now.

I’ve gone through a few of the minimalist wallets trying to find the best one. Ridge Wallets, a Hanks Wallet. Which was very nice, but not hand sewn.

And now I have the Craft and Lore wallet made in Idaho. It’s very nice, hand sewn without a big brand etched into the side.

I've got a Spotminder tracker in my wallet. It's one of those trackers that's about the size of a credit card, and about twice as thick. It has to be recharged about every 4 months and needs one of those wireless chargers to do it. I have two of those in the house for our phones, so no problem there. It works just like an Apple AirTag, so you do need an iPhone to track it on the Apple Find It app. So far, I haven't lost the wallet, so no real-world test yet. I have left it in the house just to go outside and do something, and if I have my phone with me, I'll get an alert that I left the wallet behind. I think you can get these at the usual places (like Amazon) for $39.

I had my wallet stolen from my locker at the YMCA 50 yrs ago while I was showering after playing basketball with a group guys I didn't know. I failed to lock my locker while I was showering. While getting dressed I noticed my wallet was gone. When I was going down the sidewalk leaving I saw my wallet sitting on the brick wall bordering the sidewalk. Thief took all the cash except one ten dollar bill. Had to be one of the group I'd been playing bball with and he left it where I'd see it, I guess.

I just ordered an air tracker card that I can zero in on with my iPhone. $19.99 for two of them on Amazon.

It might be a good idea to just lay everything out on the table and take a picture of it with my phone so I’ll have it available. We have a MyWallet app for Louisiana that lets you load your drivers license medical cards, fishing license hunting license and have it available on your phone that’s legal without having the actual paperwork in hand. I have misplaced my wallet but was always able to backtrack and find it. I’m more likely to lose my keys, which I’ve done three times this year so far and always been able to recover them. Hope my luck doesn’t run out.

Always front pocket carry my wallet. Back pocket too easy to slip out and much easier to pickpocket. And BAD for your back and leg health. There are 15 plastic cards, 4-5 paper cards, insurance ID, a few currency bills, 2-3 folded store receipts to turn in next visit for free meal etc. and another 2-3 misc. things in this wallet. It is by Slimfold. RFID protected. My prior wallet, identical to this one, was 10 years old. Didn't need replaced at all but boring black. They came out with orange with grey stitching so obviously. Get off your fat... wallet and clean out the 50% plus junk that shouldn't even be in it. Put the rest in a Slimfold and put it in your front pocket where it should be.
