Looking at rifle scopes (that I do not need)

There are plenty of options that don't have all the widgetry and gizmology. I've been seriously considering a Burris 'Eliminator' but cost and weight have changed my thinking.

Ive got a couple of them. Makes it a whole lot easier to hit wayyyyy out there.

Learned a bit of a scope lesson just yesterday. I have been trying to snipe a squirrel that has been digging the gravel out from under my hen house concrete slab. My office is upstairs with a nice big window with the screen removed for an A/C vent. Most of my squirrel 10-22 rifles are set up with Tasco 2.5 X 10 AO scopes and all sighted in at 75 yards. This puts me inside a 3 inch circle from around 25 yards out too almost 100 yards. Close enough for squirrels! I happen to grab my number 1 10-22 and brought it up stairs a few weeks ago for any opportune sniping. I managed to take out 2 of them on single shots---ranged at 37 and 73 yards over the past week. Well one sneaky guy has been driving me nuts since it never seems to stray outside of the hens yard, which is chain link fenced. He made a mistake yesterday of wandering out into the open, but of course I would have had to lean out the window ad shoot left handed to get him. So I ran down stairs and out the door and it is now at around 15 yards. Pop--Pop---Pop---can't believe I am missing. Check scope and see I have a 6 X 24 AO on this one. Darn---even down at 6x and AO at 15 yards it is still blurry. He was hit but made his way into a tangle of tree branches on the ground. Once I found him---gave himself up with a tail twitch--I had to sight down the side of the barrel at about 10 feet and still took 2 more shots too finish him off. I also keep a single shot bolt with iron sights close at hand, but was so excited to see him where I could get him---just grabbed the wrong rifle.

Since everyone like pictures---

Aww, I like squirrels…

We have a family that live in a tree outback.

During the winter last year when it was cold, the momma came down and chewed into our patio furniture for stuffing to line their nest.

My wife wasn't happy but understood, so we put out a donor pillow she could get the stuffing from instead…saving our furniture pillow.

This past spring her little baby got stuck on a post of our roof cover. He got halfway up but couldn't get down.

His momma was NOT happy. She was on the fence telling him what to do, but he didn't listen. Finally, he managed to get down and back across the yard to the tree with his mom and nest.

We kept the dogs inside and watched all this through the windows.

We have oak and hickory trees on 3 sides of our house. As you can imagine we are covered up with squirrels. A couple years ago one chewed thru the rubber fuel line on my pu just enough to cause a little hole. Took a while to find it, surprised my truck didn't burn. Occasionally I thin them out, using a Benjamin .22 air rifle. Has 3000 psi behind it! I then lay the squirrels out so the hawks can have a free meal. They have yet to thank me...............
I use a Weaver 6x24, shooting at 25 to 75 yards. Sighted at 25 yds, use the hash marks for distance shooting. My eyes are well beyond the open sight age!
