my first time out with my new bisley. a lot of fun but i do have a question. i have not been into the guts of the SBH before and i thought i'd ask a question before i delve in. where my loading gate fits into the frame moves in and out a bit but enough to make it the clearance between it and the rim of the cartridge so tight the cylinder is hard to rotate. when i push the loading gate into the frame righter then it loads fine. my question is should the loading gate be that loose and if not how do you get it tighter. from here i am going to utube to see how to take it apart but i thought i'd ask here first. thanks

Your spring appears to be on top of the cam in picture 2, it might be bent, a little bend back might be needed, or call Ruger and let them know, they most likely will send you a new spring free of charge.

You will need your sn#

If you decide to take it out, I like to de-burr the contact edges and polish a tad, just be careful not to take too much off the tip, a easy thing to do.

The loading gate spring isn't holding the gate to the rear. Looking at both pics, you can tell the spring is in the same place regardless of where the loading gate is (correctly to the rear, or forward).

Whether you send it to Ruger or do it yourself, the spring needs to be replaced or the portion you can see needs to be bent towards the recoil shield. Sounds as if you're not familiar with disassembly so ship it ($35ish after a phone call to Ruger and about 5-10 days roundtrip), or do some surfing YouTube and enjoy the process. It's a little like Chinese arithmetic the first time and it has to go back together the correct way (all the parts that is) but afterwards you'll know why something is out of whack. If you choose to do it yourself, I'd just replace the spring as it's inexpensive.

I'm curious how that spring got out of whack. The spring is supposed to be up against the loading gate cam when the loading gate is in its correct location. It's got to be fixed as the loading gate will continue to jump forward when shot because of the spring not doing it's job.

Agree the spring is a little out of shape. Easy fix to do yourself if a little mechanically inclined. It just needs a little less bend on the piece that contacts the loading gate. If not, it won't cost you anything to call Ruger. Last time I sent in a gun they didn't change me any shipping either so likely will cost nothing to have Ruger deal with it or as G2 mentions they will send a new one for free.

Too easy to fix to go thru all that mailing and waiting!!!

They come like that some times, just bend the spring back like DHD posted and learn about your gun. Don't worry, you can't screw it up!

the reason i sent it in to ruger is i do not know what caused it and thought they would know better than i if something was out of spec. ie the loading gate cam. i did just put a SBH hammer in my flat top so i am familiar with the gun i just needed a more experienced eye to take a look at it.

Well my post was too late I guess, but in the above was the answer to your concern: "They come like that some times,..." There's no other reason than the spring is slightly bent wrong. Well they'll fix it for you and have it back in under 2 weeks.
