It’s nice the dog made it home.

We walk our dogs daily. They know when it is getting time for their walk; and man, if there is a delay they start to get really antsy. My wife works at home on the phone. They really start to act up like a couple of rowdy kids.

They know the route as well, I often wonder if they could just walk themselves. If we pass a house with a dog in the backyard, they remember that house.

Animal homing instincts are incredible. Just before Linda and I were married we rented an apartment in Bel Air MD. . no pets allowed. She had a cat named Mouse. She took her to a friend about 10 miles from her apartment. Now she lived, at that time, on the southern end of the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Princess Anne. The day she was to leave and come to the new apartment I get a phone call. She is crying and sniveling unbelievably. I ask her what the problem was? Her reply was "The freakin' cat came home and is hanging on the front door screen wanting to come in!". I told her: "Bring her with you. We will hide her." Mouse had come home in three days across miles of swampland and across US13 which is a 60+mph 4 lane highway.

Linda and I always had a Labrador still do he's a chocolate and is 12 years old!
I can not imagine leaving him anywhere. Were we go he goes. If dogs are not allowed
we are not either! Our dogs have always been loyal so We return the favor. Buster
when he was young was the Best Hunting dog I ever had, Max was the first, then it was
Boss he was a black one also an eager Retriever. Shot a Partridge in flight it fell into
a large brush pile Boss fetch him up took close to a half hour for him to get it,he never gave up!
Watching these dogs do what they do is amazing. Labradors are the best. Their biggest
fault is they can be stubborn they do not quit if they like you! Mans Best Friend Truer words were never spoken! ps

My great grandfather was a dog trainer for some rich admirer of her and trained the dog at Oshkosh Wisconsin. They crated the dog and shipped it via railroad. It broke out of its crate I think in Illinois. It showed up later back in Oshkosh and they had to ship it again. Mom told me all this and we have the picture.

Our dogs have always known where their next meal is and so even if they go out to wander the neighborhood by accident they will after a while show back up and bark at the front door. I had a basset mix that would go out every morning and up the street and eat breakfast with a neighbor.. then come back down past our house and sit on the front porch of another neighbor's until she came out with her dogs and then go on their morning walk with them and then come home and get her 2nd breakfast.
