John Wayne - Did you know...?

I zoomed the heck out of that photo, and I'm now of the opinion that he's wearing a single, simple "ring bracelet" perhaps 1/4" to 3/8" in diameter . . . not any kind of "cuff". He wore similar things in most of his later movies. I have no idea of any background on this, but that seems to be what we see here . . . JMHO. YMMV ;)
I'm not understanding this at all. Take a look at the picture in this post. I'm talking about the thing on his right wrist to the left of his gun. What do you see that's 1/4" to 3/8" in diameter? It sure looks like leather to me. Am I going crazy or is it you people who are going crazy?

The only ones i knew who turned theirs face-in, said tunnel rats (think "ku chi") did that, and that was to keep the glow from being seen, and the crystal from being "grinded-up".
I went through RIP in 1992 and we were all told to wear our watches face out but on the underside of our wrists

Not the best resolution at the magnification needed, it takes looking at it from several angles (several different shots as you go around the big bronze) to average out the answer. I CAN see how you are seeing it, it is a bit of an optical illusion. Trust me, i love optical illusions, and without the right contrast and sharpness, you will see what you think you are seeing. Its a Ya Gotta Be There sort of difference.
no, yer not crazy or blind, it simply wasent important enough to the photographer to make it stand out.

Think of it as a "bracelet" consisting of a piece of flexible tubing about that diameter formed into a loop long enough to fit around his wrist . . . like a watch band or something similar. That loop has slid down his arm until it rests on the upper part of his hand. Everything above that is just his bare arm up to his rolled-up sleeve, just like on his left arm.

On the wall of the Best Western in Eagar AZ there is a picture of him riding his horse in town. Story is he would occasionally ride from his ranch to town.
When I first discovered his ranch while traveling to and working in the area, I thought "how cool it would be to ride up to JW's ranch on a horse!"
Well now that I live in the area that may just become a reality.

OK, now I'm beginning to see what you guys are talking about. What I thought to be the bottom edge of a leather cuff, is actually the little bracelet itself. What I envisioned as the cuff was just his bare wrist. My apologies guys. Below is what I thought it to be.

If y'all look at these pictures, he's wearing what appears to be a shiny "wristlet." One pic is from a western and the other a cop flick.

What i said it is. Filters and lighting make it goldish, or it could really be gold, where i had understood it to be copper. And it is visible as a separated circlet if the statue pic is taken from the right side. There are a handful of shots as the photog goes around the statue, as seen on googol as i suggested, but full hollywoid color makes it leap out. And theres that silly leather band on his left, that some pics have on the right, and it is too narrow to be a protective cuff, it may have a similar personal significance.

Ya look at some stills from rio lobo, thats his own hairy forearm, not a hair-on leather cuff. One still from big jake, looks like 1" wide dark leather band holding down a small bandage. The internet can be fun. Or stupid; clicked on one with duke and cabot and get derected to james arness!

Oh about #20...I remember when I first got to boot camp, one of the guys asked if it was OK to wear a watch. He was told, "it's ok as long as you don't wear it like a pu$$ey with the crystal on the inside".

Seems to me someone that listens to a blowhard is the bigger pu$$y. YMMV

Now, that for sure is not an optical illusion, and is what i thought you thought you were seeing.

During the filming of The Green Berets, the Degar or Montagnard people of Vietnam's Central Highlands, fierce fighters against communism, bestowed on Wayne a brass bracelet that he wore in the film and all subsequent films; ot do the story goes.

Since the statue is all the same color, there is no distinguishing what is actually flesh. As I said, I thought it was a leather cuff and what you were seeing was the thick edge of the leather cuff. Is that so hard to understand?

"Green Berets" Bracelet:
During the filming of "The Green Berets," the Montagnard people, known for their fierce fighting against communism, presented John Wayne with a brass bracelet.
Symbolic Meaning:
The bracelet from the Montagnards was seen as a symbol of respect and admiration from the people of Vietnam.
Personal Accessory:
Wayne's habit of wearing the bracelet in his later films became a personal trademark, a way for him to carry a piece of these meaningful experiences with him.

John Wayne was known for wearing a copper bracelet, specifically a brass bracelet gifted to him by the Montagnard people of Vietnam's Central Highlands during the filming of The Green Berets. He often wore this bracelet in many of his later films. Additionally, he also wore a copper bracelet for arthritis relief.
He also wore an M.I.A. bracelet sometimes.

I spent a year 1966 in Danang Vietnam. About a month after I got there, a Chaplain if I remember right, came to give us a talk on the Montagnard people. His main theme of the talk was to "stay away from them". They were not such good people. He showed us a movie about their lives and what they did. One thing I found disgusting was that they sacrificed a water buffalo to make their crop come in well. It was the way they did it that disgusted me. They tied his head to a tree and then used a machete to chop the tendons in his back legs so they bent the wrong way at the knees. Then they stuck a spear through his side. What they did then was to grab the end of the spear and rotate it like they were rowing a boat. They believe that the more pain they put the animal through, the better their crops would be. Meanwhile the poor thing was trying to jump around on those slashed back legs.

Another disgusting thing they did was very disgusting. None of those people had any top front teeth in their mouth. When their children were around 8 or 9 years old, they had them lay on the ground with their heads between someones knees. Then the guy holding the kid would take a couple rocks, one pointed and one to use like a hammer. They would then proceed to knock out all the kids front teeth on their upper jaw. The Chaplain didn't offer an explanation of why they did that.

They said to stay away from those people and I was not very anxious to meet one of them.

I have been wearing this SS bracelet since December 1971. He got shot down 10-5-65, while flying an F-105 and allegedly landed on the Chinese side of the border. After the war the Chinese said his jet was obliterated when it crashed and yet they returned his ID in perfect condition. Another story goes he was in the jungles for a couple of years being resupplied by his C.O. until he had to return to the states. He could not be extracted.
