Great list KIR. one story about him I saw on the history channel a couple years ago. He was a young man trying to break into acting and hooked a gofer job at one of the studios. He was sitting at the chow hall one day with an old man who was involved with making a western and they were chatting and he found out pretty soon the old guy was Wyatt Earp. He was hired as an expert for the movie details or something like that. He ended up picking up some of Earps mannerisms to use in his pictures. It obviously worked.

#2 After Duke's Singin' Sandy roles, it's surprising there ever was another singing cowboy movie.
I just watched "Long Voyage Home" (1940), a John Wayne movie I had never heard of. A very unique John Wayne film.

Bet not many here knew this about him.
Old timers around here talk about seeing the Wild Goose out Salmon fishing.
One old guy told me he was invited aboard to talk fishing because "The Duke"
saw him out fishing him!!!
Stories grow.......!

Cheers,
JAYDAWG

So did you turn it around?
Thank you so much for the insult but I didn't wear a watch. You just don't give up do you? You're just getting rather boring now.

When I was stationed on the USS Bryce Canyon, we went into a dry dock in Long Beach for some work. In the smaller dry dock right next to us was John Wayne's mine sweeper "Wild Goose". They were ripping the super structure off of it and turning it into a pleasure boat. I'm sure they were working below decks also be we couldn't see what all they were doing. I'm sure Wayne was there at times but we never saw him. He must have had a fortune invested in that boat. Just putting the thing into a dry dock would have busted my budget.

John Qualen was hired to teach John Wayne the accent for the movie. Ward Bond was also in it. John Ford produced it and right now it's on TCM on demand. It's one of my favorite films

Oh about #20...I remember when I first got to boot camp, one of the guys asked if it was OK to wear a watch. He was told, "it's ok as long as you don't wear it like a pu$$ey with the crystal on the inside".
The only ones i knew who turned theirs face-in, said tunnel rats (think "ku chi") did that, and that was to keep the glow from being seen, and the crystal from being "grinded-up".

He and Dizzy Dean used to go bird hunting on my uncle's place in AZ. He liked it so much that he bought a ranch nearby for raising cattle.
