I just pickup a single six that came with Ivory Grips and the standard wood grips did Ruger offer real Ivory grips or these after market simulated? they have no marking or Ruger Eagle on them. is there way to tell if they are real Ivory? Thanks for any help. How much would they be worth?

If there's no eagle, they're not factory. I'm no ivory expert but you can sometimes tell from the back panel grain. Can you post pictures of them off the gun? (both sides).

Wow that was fast. You posted the pictures within a minute of me asking. Hard to tell from the photos. Hopefully some of the gripmakers on the forum can provide insight.

Hard to tell. A rather definitive test -- heat the tip of a needle red-hot, then apply it lightly to a spot on the back of one grip. Take a sniff -- if it smells like burning hair, you've got ivory, or at least some natural substance, like bone. If it smells like burning plastic, well, that's what you've got.

I would like to see good close ups of both grip bottoms. However, with heat/smell test positive, both grips showing various colors/shades, the small cracks around the ferrels and the darker color in this same area I would say they are ivory.

Value? Try buying a good pair of older ivory grips for $400.00.

If I was buying, I’d be satisfied they are ivory based on your pictures.

If they have distinct organic grain and you can see crazing and checking on the butts, you can have much confidence they are ivory.

When grips are plastic, there tends to be no doubt about it. Color and material are completely uniform.

More than anything else you are looking to be aware of that visceral difference between organic and synthetic.

So these are not from Ruger! Any ideas who made them they where on a Gun made around 1979 New Model Single Six 9 1/2" Barrel,I just sold the Gun on Gun Broker and had not listed the Ivory grips with the Gun and was going to throw them in the box when I shipped the Gun today but wanted to make sure what I had. Thanks for everybody's Help.

    You were going to trough them in on the deal at no cost!!

I had not thought of this before but on a 1974 NM these grips are XR3-REDs. The back side of your grips show only one indexing hole so they for sure were made as XR3-REDS and after 1962. At a max of 60 years old the very small amount of cracking at the ferrels makes sense.

Unless you can find some makers mark on the back side, there is no way that I know of telling who made them.

In the Reference book of Chad Hiddleson the Brown box was used for the NR-9 models up until Ser# 66-73662 the one I sold Ser# 67-39417

Nice looking grips and yes appear to be 'ivory' and I agree as to the value noted above, they are what they are,,,,main thing is "how they fit" the frame , gaps at the top and NO edge showing around the outside (back ,bottom and front....)

Note the difference in the crosshatch pattern in the end grain.
Yours looks like elephant ivory.
