Its cancer

Add my prayers and hope for the best. Sounds like it was found early. Ten years ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had that kidney surgically removed. I'm still cancer free. Cancer can be beat and I hope you can be posting here in ten years.

You have my prayers, Bob. I had a total removal of my large intestine 4 years ago. Doctor performed a hook-up to my small intestine, been cancer free. I hope yours is not as serious. But it is amazing what they can do these days.
They should have told you what stage of cancer you have. Stage 4 would be the worst news and if I had stage 4 I would start to get my affairs in order. If you have a gun collection sometimes its better to sell them rather than have sons or daughters fight over them when you die. Also if your Will does not specifically state who gets what then the relatives can start sueing each other over the value of your property.
I had a brother in law that had stage 4 and he did live about 4 years after the diagnosis so stage 4 if you even have it will not necessarily mean immediate death. This will give you time to get your affairs in order.
The Cleveland Clinic website should give you a lot of information on what your survival rate might be and what options and treatments are available so you can read the riot act to your Doctor if he is not giving you all of your options, never count on a Doctor doing his job to the best of his ability, some do and some could not care less.
Its better to look at your situation head on, do your immediate research, and then pick your options in advance. This way no doctor can hand you a lot of left handed bullshit. Also never be afraid of getting second opinions as the skill and expertise between different Doctors can vary a lot. Often you can get the ratings of the Doctor you are seeing by going online. If he has a bad rating get rid of him quick and get another more qualified Doctor.
I know getting a second opinion can often be a lot of trouble to go through but remember your life is at stake here.
I wish you good luck and do not be afraid to kick a lot of ass to get the treatments you need and the treatments that you deserve.

I agree with you. I've had Prostate, skin and colon cancer and beat all three. Now, I have it in my liver and no idea if I'm gonna beat it as well. The last MRI I had was a couple of month ago and the doc proclaimed the colon appears to be cured. I'm not sure just what the deal in the liver is all about other than the biopsy said cancer. So far, the doc just has the nurse give me a shot in my rear end once a month. In the right side one month and then the left side next month. The needle looks almost like a ball point pen refill with a sharp end. I'm not afraid of needle but that thing hurts going in.

Bob, I know this will be of small comfort but my mother-in-law had two or three colon surgeries and lived just fine to only about two weeks before her 95th. birthday. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, had it removed three years ago and my PSAs are <0.01, or undetectable now.
So, cancer can most defiantly be beaten.

I had late stage 3 colo-rectal cancer. Had chemo, radiation, surgery and then more chemo. It was about a years worth of fear, hope and worry.
But that was in 2003.
It's beatable but if I had it to do over again I would do alternative treatment, there's some legitimate cures. Standard treatment is almost as bad as the cancer.

Having lost my son recently to colon cancer that metastasize to his liver and lungs, having a colonoscopy at 40 is not unreasonable.

Sam Summey, sorry for your loss. When I was age 50 I lost 2 friends to colon cancer. ( Both age 50 ) One I had known since PRE school.
I told my Dr I wanted to be checked. He said no cause no family history or symptoms. I persisted and got one done.
Had 25 polyps and half a dozen or so were PRE-cancerous. Good call …. Thank God.
Just had another 2 years ago and for the first time NO polyps so dont have to return for 7 years.

Just my 2 cents worth Bob. I had testicular cancer in 1990, half neutered, a few weeks of radiation & 34 years later still all good.
1. Your job is to get well, let other folks do the worrying, stress is really counterproductive. Keep a positive attitude.
2. Keep your sense of humor. I really hate to admit it, but Readers Digest was right. Laughter really is the best medicine.
