Take a look at the bluing on the SC6. I believe this is why Ruger chromed/nickeled about 100 of these in the mid 60's. This one's SN is about 500 off from my factory nickeled SC6. It's almost worth buying for the conversation piece although it has been converted.

Even at the late date of this gun, new Rugers with the plumb coloring were viewed as a small manufacturing error and not as the beautiful finish as we do now. Covering with plating would remove the idea of less than perfect.

Was interested enough in the late manufacturing, plumb frame, wrong but better grips, and having a reconversion parts bag for Single Six the $255 was fair. Mistyfauna is my GA handel :D

Glad you got it SATCOM. Well bought and one of the least expensive plum Rugers you will probably find. I like it because its not all plum but kinda mottled looking, if thats the right word.

Great buy SATCOM! I have a question though, in what way are the grips wrong?

Hondo,

Nothing, got the serial number confused with another gun.
Of course black eagles for a 505464 serial numbered gun are correct.

The brightest purple frames I've ever seen were also on a pair of Super Single-Sixes in the 500xxx and 502xxx range. Both also had a small "S" on the bottom of the frame and both also lettered as being shipped as LR only.
It is interesting that these purple guns were made at the same time as the 385xxx to 416xxx range fixed sight purple guns and "S" guns (also all shipped as LR only). Same steel pour evidently.
