interesting article on Single Action

I love single action revolvers.
I love flathead engines, propeller driven airplanes, old pickup trucks, brown liquor, and...well, you can imagine what else an older gentleman like myself might like.

I have 3 SA's, and one double action that I shoot SA (cause I can't hit anything shooting DA ) and this article pretty much describes my experiences so far.
I'm sure there will be critical comments, but heck, I like the first amendment as much as I've come to like the second.

For me, I never had any use for the double action of a double action revolver, though I have many. I was first introduced to the strange single action creature when my friend brought his Single Six to the range. He inherited it from his dad and it had many thousands of rounds through it. It was amazingly smooth.

From that, I bought my own Single Six, a Bisley .45 Colt, and a Bisley Super Blackhawk.

In my enthusiasm, I lied.
I have a Heritage .22, a Pietta 1873 that I shoot .45 ACP, and a SBH. My fourth revolver is a SRH, but I treat her like a SBH .
The article states that even after the advent of DA's, "shootists" preferably chose the SA's, as they were easier to be accurate.
I concur.

Not a bad article. And yes,, it does a fair job of explaining many things.

But I had to chuckle at the comment about fast drawing with live ammo, or fanning and how "nobody" could do that. The writer never saw or watched a guy like Bob Munden. While he did a lot of his shows with blanks,, he also did a lot with live ammo. And with world record speeds.

In general,, I agree that most people should not try fast drawing with live ammo, or cocking a hammer while the gun is still in the holster. Or even fanning in any form for accuracy.

But overall, not a bad article,, especially for those who are new(er) to the ownership or use of a SA handgun.

Ruger new model single actions if proven by a good trial run are the handguns I'd ride int hell with If I had to. Yeah, might have to go to a different grip material, but otherwise I trust their performance that much.

Maybe or not, the most powerful, accurate or fastest handguns all in one, but certainly as strong & dependable as nearly anything out there.

What's funny, or not par for this kind of thinking is that I embrace a lot of modern tech & use some of to my choosing. But,,,, I never think just because it's new, it must be better because sometimes it ain't. The BH is a classic example of this.

FWIW, I have seven (7) single action revolvers, all Rugers, from.22, 30 carbine, 357 magnum, 45 Colt and 45 ACP. I love ‘em all.

I can't compete with @Wyandot Jim but I definitely have a fondness for the old SA's

I only have one NM Single-Six in .17 HMR

And only one DA that I rarely shoot

Have you shot one yet? I think they look great. but not sure if that is the ideal grip for one.

I have one single-action revolver and three double action revolvers. The only time I have fired the double action revolvers in double action mode is just one time to make sure they functioned ok.

I bought the SRH as an alternative to single action, but I find single action to be more relaxing (is that a good way to describe pistol shooting?)
Anyway, I think I need another SBH, maybe with a shorter barrel.

Holy crap that's a lot of revolvers. Are they all old models? I have a bunch of SA Rugers but most are new models. I'm not smart enough to be able to tell what the lonely looking MK is but that's my passion, the old MKII's.

New models from 12 O'clock to 5 all of the rest are old model 3 screw and flat tops. One lettered brassie and a nickel plated NON factory 357 flat top. As far as the MK it is the 50th anniversary model????

Never shot any pistol with a birdshead grip and don't know of anyone that has one - I wll either love it immediately or learn to love it.
