Actually in looking at the instructions.... it is called an "AC pass through" and so that kind of explains it.... then it points out that it is limited to 6 amps and there is a fuze for this...

Kinda sounds like they've just provided a handy outlet for something like a "trouble light" used whilst servicing one's battery or starting a stubborn vehicle.

Well, depending on what you have, replacement smoke may be available should worst come to worst.

Yeah, you can find replacement smoke if you look hard enough. It's the dang installer that is impossible to find. (pretty sure Area 51 has a couple though)
