Kinda sounds like they've just provided a handy outlet for something like a "trouble light" used whilst servicing one's battery or starting a stubborn vehicle. :)

Yeah, you can find replacement smoke if you look hard enough. It's the dang installer that is impossible to find. (pretty sure Area 51 has a couple though)
