Installing Bisley hammer in Single Six

I gather the usual method for installing Bisley hammers in single six revolvers is to modify the rear 'hump' of the hammer to allow the grip frame to fit around it. Would it work equally well to lengthen the 'slot' in the top of the grip frame to accept the Bisley hammer?

Are there any other hand fitting issues involved with Bisley hammer substitutions besides that? Thanks in advance for any comments.

You can do that.....but the slot ends up being LLLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGGG and creates a funny looking hole with the hammer at rest.

Just a thought for you- You modify a bisley hammer and if you want you can swap the original back and have a stock gun. You modify the grips frame and even if you swap the single six hammer back in, you have a BIG hole in the gun. I have done several modifications of bisley hammers to fit regular grip framed guns and the hardest part is finding a bisley hammer.

Another good point. While I have extra grip frames, there is no point in ruining one just to prove I'm in over my head.

Here's a couple that I REALLY LIKE...... The Hammers were "cut" to match the .32 cal. Single-Sixes.

Lay up the hammers and grind away.

Modifying the hammer gives you the opportunity to make a nice hammer-to-grip frame 'ears' flush fit. You might want to go for a Bisley trigger as well.
