Being pretty cheap, I don't pass up less-than-pristine ammo cans if the price is right. I was using the white spray paint I had on hand (I said I was cheap) to paint a rusty can when I discovered that painting the inside white made it easier to see what is in the bottom. Now, I spray the inside of any can I pick up.

Friends that were on carriers during the gulf war said they would dump pallets of empty ammo cans of all sizes right off the deck, then use them for target practice. Of course the smaller the can the higher the point value. :)

I've given up on painting ammo cans. No matter how good I prep it's still not as durable as the original. Anybody know of a source of the Fat 50 cans?
