Friday a friend and I were at my cabin in the woods getting some work done. He was admiring my Beretta 3032. I told him to go pop off a mag, so he went outside. I hear one, and a few seconds later a second shot. Promptly afterwards he starts screaming. Yup, shot himself. In the hand. Apparently he was not familiar with a d/a, s/a gun. Being remote, we met the ambulance halfway. He'll be ok, but won't be using his left hand for a bit.
 
so, what is it about your friend that you don't like that you didn't bother to ask if he was familiar with this weapon...? I think I'd be calling my lawyer, and insurance company - I think I smell a lawsuit, friend or no friend, it's the way of today's world... 🫣

Hmmm, that's a very small frame, I'm curious to know if his friend didn't take off the tip of his left index finger . . . . Ouch 🫨

unfortunately you are right, but in reality I bet it doesn’t come to this. It sounds like the are good friends if they were helping each other at the cabin.

What the OP should do is gift the Beretta to his friend.

The only thing I can think of is that he tried that trigger disconnect trick. I don't know if this model has a disconnect if the gun isn't fully in battery, but even if it does it's not advisable to try it out on anything that's going to bleed.

Back around 30 years ago, when I was working 2nd shift for Chevrolet. I once drove a coworker to the ER at 3:30 AM, after he managed to shoot his entire middle finger off while we were shooting after work at a nearby indoor range.
Luckily for him, it was only about a one mile drive.
We took the remnants of his finger along, but they were unable to reattach it...😐

Damn that sucks.
Guy on another crew from work managed to bounce a 9mm off his left palm.
He had to drive 40 miles to an urgent care to get it looked at.
When he got home the law was waiting to ask him some questions.
Him and I are in a sort of competition to see who can get the most firearms.
He is losing.

I was actually one of the boneheads to which you refer.

Back in the mid-80's I was involved with fast-draw competitions when I was stationed in North Carolina, and when I was visiting some friends in Texas while on leave we got into our own fast draw competition, drawing and shooting at empty shotgun shells at 10 yards (and occasionally hitting one). One draw I fumbled the grip a little bit and ended up shooting through my holster, scraped along my right shin and going right through my right big toe (and my almost new Justin boots) with a 210 grain JHP from a Blackhawk 41 mag. they saved the toe, but I have some extra hardware in it now, and a nice thick scar along my shin.

A week later after getting out of the hospital I went back to where we were shooting and found the slug only about 6" deep in the ground. For several years I wore it on my dog tag chain, until I lost it in a motorcycle wreck.

I'm really not that reckless, that time I shot myself is the only time in my life I've been hospitalized.

Great memory Watertender. One of the bad things about that incident was at the time it happened I was helping out part time in an indoor shooting range, which had a regular firearms safety class. I donated my right boot to the class, along with some fairly gruesome photos.
 
Closest I've ever come to shooting any part of my anatomy was at the range. I was shooting a Colt SAA .45 that I'd picked up at a gun show cheap ($400) Some idiot had "reworked it for fast draw and it's really slick. I've shot guns with very light set triggers but this one is a doozy. It would fire from full cock, the loading notch and even the safety notch. It gave new meaning to the term hair trigger. As I said, I was at the range shooting and my wife was with me. I'd cocked that Colt accident waiting to happen and lowered the gun to my side so I could see what my wife wanted. I know my finger was not on the trigger but that damned gun went off anyway. The 250 gr. cast bullet just missed my right foot and scared the bejabbers ut of me. I still have that gun but its been used as part of a display at Hunter Ed classes on what not to do to a gun.

On another more scary note, I was on a deer hunt with a coworker and a friend he'd brought along. We spotted a small herd with a spike buck and several does. We we hunting in an either sex area so my coworker and I shot a doe each while his friend was one of those, "I'll never shoot a doe." type and he optedforthe spike. My coworker's and my der were down DRT but Mr. Bucks only gut shot his. Now I have what would have been a clear shot to stop that spike from getting away when my coworker'sfriend ran right in front f me and all I could see in the scope was his blonde har. I had the pressure the trigger at almost the let off point and to this day I'll never know how I was able to my finger off the trigger before the rifle went off. FWIW, the rifle was a .270. You can bet your bottom dollar that he got probably one of the worst butt chewing in he entire life. He and my coworker went off to try andfind the spike but they never found him Me? Someone had to stay and gut those two does. I'd done a lot of hunting with an ill fitting pair of boots. I took my wife and two older kids out for deer and they all scored. I guided two neighbor and one got his deer and the other and his son got theirs. Somehow, they all hated eating the venison and I ended up with tem. I hadn't planned to go out and fill my tag as there six deer in my freezer. I only went out to help my coworker. I was only by the grace of God that I was able to stop that shot before it went off.
