Help needed

Last night I cleaned my rifle and now the rounds will not seat in the chamber. The bolt comes forward and stops about 1/2" from full closure. I have tried different magazines that does not seem to be the problem. The bolt works fine with no magazine or with an empty magazine. There is something going on with the bolt...I think.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, what model is this rifle? 10/22? 77/22? 96/22?

Sorry...This is a new Ruger 10/22. I have fired probably 1000 rounds through it with no problems. As I orginally stated, the magazines don't seem to be the issue. I have tried several and they all work great empty. None of the work when loaded. The bolt will extract the round it just will not fully close.

Are the scope mount screws/plug screws protruding down and interfering with the bolt?

My wife has a 10/22. A couple of years ago I cleaned it and when I put the bolt back in, the bolt would not operate correctly. I don't remember exactly what the bolt was doing, but I got out my manual and kept looking at the rifle and then I saw what I had done. When I had put the bolt back into the rifle the ejector had flipped around and was facing towards the hammer. Look at your Ruger manual at the top of page 33. The ejector, part B-8, must be pointing towards the front of the bolt and laying in the ejector slot before you install the bolt into the rifle. The ejector is mounted in the bolt in such a way the it can flip around and face towards the back of the bolt. You will still be able to put the bolt into the rifle, but it will not operate correctly. Lock the bolt back, and look into the opening. Do you see the black ejector sticking out? If not, you did the same thing I did. Remove the bolt and flip the ejector around so that it is facing forward and reinstall the bolt. I hope that this helps you.

+1 with Bruce. Really hate to admit it but I have done the same thing and had the exact same problem.

As mentioned, check the two items above... and the simplest thing is to take it all apart again and put it back together... the good news is that you know the rifle works fine before and there is very little you can do to break it....

I've never had the ejector do what the guys above said but I'm sure it can happen and I'm pretty sure you can figure it out with a little time.

Took it back apart it is not the ejector...Still does not work. I am wondering if it could be the bolt lock. About a month ago I ground off the tit on the bolt lock. I have fired maybe 1000 rounds through it since then with no problems. I am at a loss, but will keep looking.

Try posting some pics of exactly what's going on. Any obvious drag marks on the bolt? Does it do this without the magazine inserted? Does it do this with the trigger assembly removed?

if you remove the magazine after the bolt gets stuck does it go the rest of the way forward and fully chamber the round?

Stupid question - you didnt lose a patch in the bbl did you?

OK...I figured out what the problem was. The pin was stuck in the bolt. I took the bolt apart, buffed the pin, put it back together and it works like a champ.
I am not sure why the pin stuck...but problem fixed!
Learned something new about my little 10/22!
