Hey guys,

I just ordered my SR-22 last week. I know it does not come with any sights. What are you guys using or would recommend to a newbie such as myself for target/range shooting? I'd also like to purchase some kind of folding/retractable bi-pod as well.

Thanks guys

Welcome to the Forum!
Your selection of the SR-22 will allow you MANY options of accessories.
Many folks put a red dot optic on their guns as they are accurate,, and fun to use. Plus they allow for quick target aquision. You can get a mid-priced red dot for around $75-$100 and you'll be happy with that. (I use a Tru-Glo on my 10/22 and it's great. Only cost me $50 at a NRA event auction.)
As for a folding bi-pod,, I'm a bit prejudiced,, in that all my bi-pods are made by Harris. Well known for quality & durability.

Thanks for the info Contender. Im heading to bass pro shops right now to see what they have in stock! :)

Have a pic of your 10/22 with the accessories?

You can start with genuine Ruger sights...

Or, the sky is the limit on optics. Just make sure whatever rings or risers are high enough to be usable.

Nice! I was looking into the ruger sights but for a few bucks more I think I'd prefer some nice optics - which model is that there? price? Works well?

Thanks guys

I actually saw the Redfield Revolution 3-9x40mm 4-Plex optics $149 at bass pro earlier - Seemed like a solid scope - any thoughts?

The Simmons scope, 4x12 AO, as pictured is nothing special. It was inexpensive, but it still performs extremely well. If you've got your eye on a quality, American made scope, then go for it. Just get the scope you want.

Finding scope mounts, and/or rings, was much more difficult than picking out a scope. With the straight stock, and AR geometry, the scope has to be mounted quite high. I tried two different sets of high and extra high rings, until I discovered that I needed a riser to get the scope high enough. Having never scoped any AR-type equipment, this was a learning experience for me. Now that I know what I need, different manufacturers make the risers as necessary to make a scope work on an AR.

I am very pleased with my SR22.

Good luck!

Cabelas shows these Simmons Pro-Sport 4x12x40 AO's for 100 bucks. But, seems I paid a bit more.

Yes , I have extra high rings on top of the risers. That is a personal preference thing, but a lot of folks at a gun show tried all kinds of different heights on this gun, and everybody thought this was the best height.

Here's a link to a previous discussion about this issue. There's a lot of reading, but it's worth reading all the way to the end.

P.S. Sorry I can't put this to bed, but, the cheap-o Leupold 2x7 scope would work very well for this purpose. That, or the 3x9 would have been my choice in the past. But, I've got some sight issues that make most scopes very hard to focus, for me. The AO feature on my Simmons, or other scopes, make for focusing much easier and much more sharp, for me. I know the AO is not designed for that purpose, but if it works, and it DOES , then that's a blessing to me. And if a guy decided on a Simmons scope, they've got 25% off til the end of the year.

You also asked about a bi-pod. The Harris bi-pod on my Charger works very well. So, there would be no reason for me to consider anything else, if I was looking to insatall a bi-pod on any gun.

Well Wayno - Thank you for your input - I just ordered the Simmons Pro-Sport 4x12x40 AO for 99.99 w/free shipping from Cabelas :) and then the 25% rebate ill be mailing in brings the grand total to 74.99!

Thanks again! :)
