hello, Im just trying to get some general Ideals for reloading a 125 gr. 9mm. Ideals on a GOOD accurate load combination for target work.

About how many loads can you get out of a 1LB of power?

Depends on the flavor of powder you use. A typical 9mm with quick powder like WST or Bullseye will use around 4 grains of powder. At 7000 grains per pound you should get around 7000/4 = 1750 rounds, give or take some for wastage.

What powder do you have? If you have none and are looking to buy then I recommend, for 9mm, Alliant's Bullseye, Unique or Power Pistol. Bullseye is the most economical.

Your 125gr bullets, are they lead or FMJ or copper plated?

One thing that I like to mention is that case tension holds the bullet in place. The taper crimp really just smoothes down the belling of the case. So you just want to bell just the mouth of the case to accept the bullet then have the bullet fit nice and snug in the case. Other wise the round feeding into the gun can push the bullet deeper into the case on it's way into the chamber. And this isn't a good thing.

Thinking of trying these :" Precision Bullets" , name brand with the dry-lube coating. Their lead with that hard coating. I read their easyer on your dies, not suppose to lead up the barrel.
I havent purchase anything yet, trying to learn what MOST people like ,before I by.. Thanks for your feed back !!!

I primarily shoot moly coated lead 125gr bullets in my 9mm. I will get a little leading, but it's not too hard to scrub out.

I know guys who shoot lubed Missouri lead bullets with no issues. They get more smoke. I don't know if it's the bullet lube burning or their choice of powder. I get half the smoke they do.

Just don't run lead too fast. Use load data that keeps it around or below 1000 fps. You'll know if you're running bullets too fast. If you're getting lots of leading then try backing off the charge.

If you do find a leading issue then you can always try shaking your bullets in liquid Alox lubrication.

Hi,

My experience w/ 9mm plinking/target ammo says 124 or 125 gr lead bullets work well at "starting" levels using Bullseye, Red Dot, Green Dot, Unique and Win 540 (which is discontinued, but Hodgdon's says HS-6 is identical.) I'm sure plenty of other powders work well, too.

You shouldn't have any trouble finding plenty of recipes looking thru your loading books and the online manuals from the powder companies.

I use 4.6gr Unique which are supposed to run around 1,000 fps. I do get more smoke than with factory ammo, which I attribute it to the combination of bullet lube and Unique.

I use sorted cases, CCI500 or WSP, and a start load of 5.4g, with an OAL of 1.130--1.155" for round nose bullets.

After reliable function, my second goal for my ammo is controllable accuracy.......

Some 9mm plated bullets are on sale at Midway now. My general 9mm load is 115 grn plated RN over 4.2 grns of H Titegroup.

I use 4.0-4.5gr SR7625 for bullets between 115-125gr with a small pistol primer. Bulks up nicely so no concern with a double charge or bullet set back. This is a powder that Ken Waters of Handloader suggests for the 9mm and it functions great and is accurate.

Someones going to say, 'That WAP load of 5.4 is way over whats in my manuals!"(or online).
I had about 800 rds loaded with about that loading and everyhting I found referenced was waaay less.
Long story short, my reloads were actually real good.
Primers flatten, but not excessive and function was outstanding.
I think Speer manual has good loads with WAP.
WAP would be my choice for straight wall SA pistol.

My 9mm handloads are simple. 4.1 grains of Red Dot behind either 115 gr FMJ or 125 gr LRN cast bullet from Wheelweights with a little tin added. A Lee Factory Crimp Die is used after the bullet seating is done to be sure function is 100%.

These chrono right at 1100 fps with both bullet weights (I assume because the heavier bullet has less friction being lead) from a Taurus PT92. No leading has been seen with this combination from my gun.

I like the WAP powder as well. Don't see much Ramshot in the places I haunt but the Silhouette is the same powder.

Vitavhouri 3N37 with a TC 122g lead bullet shoots 1 1/2" at 25 yds out of my RR1911. It shoots Penn 115 g SWC pretty well too!

Starline brass sorted to length, CCI primers and Taper Crimp. 1/10g powder can make a big difference work up slowly watching for compressed charge. GLH

3N37 is my favorite 9x19 powder.
WAP is my most-used 9x19 powder.
Power Pistol also gets used a 'bit'.

I have also experienced excellent, thereby rendering them repeatable, 9x19 loads using bullets weighing from 115g to 151g, using the above mentioned choices, and also HS6, AA5, Universal and Unique, N350, Longshot, and WSL.

I recommend powders in the 'medium' burn-rate range, with the very best being 3N37, Power Pistol, and WAP (Ramshot Silhouette, which is a more modern WAP, having enhanced flash reduction, and temperature reducers. Data is interchangeable with WAP).

For 125 gr. 9mm cast bullets RNL, I pretty much use AA#5, 5.6 grs', which is only .1 gr. above the start grain of 5.5. I'm having no issues with leading. LM

Im reporting back with whats been tried with a 122gr lead semi- round nose.

Due to the bullet design I have to go to a AOL of 1.070.

Bullseye at 3.7 gr , very accurate , 4.0gr. was to hot....
W-231 3.0 wouldnt work the slide ['jaming ]
W-231 3.4gr , slide worked ok , not sure on accuacy ,need more rds down range. I will try W231 at 3.6 grs.
A#5 , at 5.4 grs its was harsh, hard recoil , due to short AOL , I think.
A#5 , at 4.9gr. [thats at below listed min] - smooth ,easy recoil ,I only had 3 rds loaded up-short on time. Next time I'll make up 10 rds for the 3 different powders. Reloading is turning out to be a lot of fun!
