Good feelin'...............

There's a couple, members of my church, who have not been in attendence lately. They are about my age, slightly younger but still seniors. Both have been faithful members and good friends. She has had some problems with knees and a bad hip, he with psoriasis of his hands.

So yesterday evening, I decided to give them a call to let them know I had missed seeing them. Her problems have increased with pain after sitting in one position very long, and getting in and out of cars. He has been working daily and tending to his wife also.

When I called, he had just come in from work and was eating his supper. She spoke briefly, and seemed really glad that I had called, and would have her husband call be after he ate. He did, and we talked for awhile. Now, I'm not much of one for cheerful phone calls, but he truly seemed glad that I had called, and expressed appreciation that I cared.

Sort of made me feel good. When I hung up, I wonder who benefitted more from the call, them, or me?

Bob, I had a minister tell me once that proper emotions follow proper actions and your example proves that out. Our church family is an extension of our natural family and to know someone is thinking of you is humbling. You put thought into action and that action is i rewarding, both for you and the folks you called.

Love your neighbor as yourself.

Hi Bob,

I've been guessing for a long time that you and I don't belong to the same church. Nor do the folks and I in my community follow the same path as you and I do. However, you, my neighbors, and I do follow paths toward the same goal.

The folks in my community stop in from time to time, just to see how I'm doing. I do appreciate their concern and, in turn, volunteer for community projects, and participate in Ward social activities. I view the Ward Bishop as my pastor.

We're all in this together.

Good on you, Bob. Seems like when we extend an act of kindness to others, we ultimately help ourselves as well.

There is an older gentleman down the road who doesn't get out much because of failing health. He had been an avid hunter/recreational shooter in years past. One day last month, I was setting out for a trip to my gun club, and stopped to ask him if he'd like to tag along. He was half way to the door before I'd finished my sentence! We spent a pleasant afternoon at the range, until his oxygen bottle was nearly depleted, and I had to get him home. The man said he never thought he'd have an opportunity to do such a thing again, and he'd be "talking about this day for weeks".
He had a great day, and I gained a new friend.

Hugh - No surprise, but you nailed it.

I'm no great example for anyone, but an occasional kind word has had an inordinate impact now and then. A "just because" Starbucks gift certificate? Same thing. Tomorrow night we're having the newest neighbors, an older couple, over for dinner with us and a couple down the street. Looking forward to knowing them.
