Pretty Good Pay

A few weeks back I posted about Buc-ee's as a joke, and it had some interest.
This is not a joke and shows that they pay pretty good along with benefits for a gas station/convenience store. Notice they have a full-time crew just for the restrooms. Must be why they are so clean.

When we stopped at a Buc-ees for the first time to get gas and see what the hoopla was all about, I noticed this listing on the top of the gas pumps. Looked around and it was on all the pumps. Was impressed with the wages and the benefits. Going in, I saw the shopping carts and commented to the wife "shopping carts?" Then we went inside 😱:eek:
 
And matching 401k. Not too shabby.

I wonder if they require the managers to have a college degree?

The problem with the lower paying jobs is if they can move up or not? $20 an hour might sound like a lot to some kid living at their parents house, but unless they move up, $20 an hour can’t buy a house.
 
I don't want to have this go political, but I think a lot of people are forgetting that these $20/hr jobs (that's $40,000 +/- per year) are starting (or supplemental income) jobs, like working in a fast food place, cashier, (in the old days pumping gas) etc. They shouldn't be thought of as "forever" jobs (but that's want the libs want you to think.) You start out and work your way up to whatever level your skills/abilities take you to or for between jobs, or use it to supplement your retirement income if needed.

For somone starting out, what Buc-ees pays is great IMO to get a person into the workforce and see what life is all about.

Well said. But I really don’t think any one from any political group would consider these jobs “forever” jobs.

I remember “back in the day” that McDonald’s used to advertise 3 out of 4 or 9 out of 10 ( pick your own percentage here) of business leaders and CEO’s got their start working McDonalds for a first job.
 
Sorry, but the liberals/socialists/communists in the US want people starting out to earn enough for it to be a "forever job" right off the bat. They really are so befuddled (for lack of a better word) that they can't even comprehend anymore how the world actually works.

Your last sentence acknowledges what I said about starting out jobs. Get started and work your way up.

State mandated high minimum wages were justified to provide a "living wage". The voters bought into the fantasy and it became law.

Here's what some apparently haven't figured out. If an employer has an increase in his overhead (wages in this instance). It does come out of his pocket. The huge evil corporations aren't making any less profit. They just pass the increase along to the consumers. Guess what, the newly paid employees now have to pay more for stuff. Result, no change in the economic status of those employees.

Buc-ees is paying well above minimum wage. I believe they are trying to attract & keep good employees.

According to a number of different sources, they prefer to promote from within, so no. They shouldn't be treated or considered as "forever jobs"

Around here, and in a lot of the south- those wages are considered prime. Factory jobs pay little better, and are hard to get. Then again, our cost of living is well below where a lot of you live.

Exactly. If companies pay more, employee turnover goes down. It costs a lot to constantly train new people. Pay them more and if they stick around all the better.

It’s nice to hear they promote from within as someone posted.
 
As everyone here already knows, I ain't exactly what you'd call a "people person". So with that in mind, the job that caught my attention was fixing stuff and/or stocking groceries at night for $22 an hour....They can keep their toilet brush, and the $3 extra it pays. I've served my time with that..LOL.

I heard one time that employees are not allowed to have cell phones while on duty, that may be why they have to pay so much.

If a minimum wage has any effect on any economy it’s always bad. First year economics 101.

Until people recently went nuts with leftism there was a minimum wage but it didn’t hurt the economy much. Mostly because over 90 percent of labor markets equilibrated well above it anyway as the prevailing labor rate for the particular labor market. And most employers wanted to attract good workers who wanted to be there.

The dirty little secret that communists don’t want to tell people is that in an open market talented workers are in demand and can’t really be ‘exploited’ by employers. Employers compete for talent and an individual’s time and talent have great value. If an employer doesn’t pay or have good conditions, his workers go elsewhere. So it’s better not to screw with labor markets.

Ever wonder why stuff is so expensive in Seattle and other Democrat run cities ? Yup. The commies there screwing with everything. So those same workers the commies proport to ‘protect’ now get to pay huge costs of living well negating any ‘protection’ and taking a huge step backwards.
