My wife has this job. Right now, she is in India. They went to Bengaluru for some meetings. Then, someone decided, since we are there, lets just go to Goa for some more meetings etc. She's been to India quite a few times and really likes it. The people are nice, it's exotic. I'd love to go myself. Someday.

Anyway, here they are on the Arabian Sea. I asked her to get some sand and sea shells for me. But then we were talking and I looked up the rules. It is quite illegal to collect sea shells, especially in Goa. And collecting sand is discouraged as well. I know this is the case in Italy, and people have been fined pretty big amounts for taking sand home. So no sand from the Arabian Sea. At lease she won't end up in an Indian prison cell.

Here are some pictures of the hotel/resort where they are having "business meetings." i.e. fancy dinners and drinks.

Here's some more pictures. She said she flew over Iraq and Iran on the way there. I'm not sure of the exact flight path, or if they did fly over Iraq? Not sure if that is allowed?

And these pictures must be of her offices in Bengaluru. Her industry is Financial Technology. She does NOT have any call centers waiting to help you.

The most exotic place I ever went for work was Dayton.
Well, I do get to spend a lot of time at ski resorts and mountain towns. There's one trade show I go to every year that is typically someplace warm. Thankfully, I do not have to go to Canada as much....

I never wanted to go to India. From what I have been told by my co-workers is you can smell it before you land. After you land you get to see how poor some of the people are along with the filth. It is much worse than Jakarta and Lagos but not as bad as the Nigerian Villages I have been to.

All countries look great from a 5 Star Hotel and the Tourist spots. You have to hang with the locals to get the real way of life of the area.

I have worked/lived anywhere from one month to a year in the following countries.

Montreal Canada
Freeport Bahamas
Singapore
Jakarta, Indonesia
Ulsan South Korea
Sakhalin Island Russia
Western Desert Egypt
Beijing China
Angola
El Wafra Kuwait (6 months after the war. Watch where you step it can go BOOM)
200 miles South of Lagos Nigeria and in Lagos
Texas

And you could not be more correct. Yes, all places look great from 5 star hotels.

The first time she went they were in Mumbai, and they took a day to go interact with some of the locals. They toured the slums and got to talk with them about living there.

Yes I know it’s just one day. But it was designed to give people like sweetie a glimpse into what real poverty feels like. And it did make an impression.

I know some people here in Dallas that feel impoverished when the Porsche is in the shop and they have to drive the Lexus to work.

You’ve had a pretty great travel / work history. When are you going to share some stories? I know you’ve talked about it some. But I bet you’ve got some good stories to tell.

Work afforded me visits to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Finland and Sweden. I was in South Korea, Taiwan and Finland multiple times for extended periods.

If I could ever live somewhere else it would be South Korea. The people are friendly, the scenery is beautiful (even the inner cities are charming) and I love the food.

If I was in India, I would never leave the tourist traps. That way I could be in denial about how nasty the country and people really are. They must be completely immune to fecal coliform bacteria. They don't believe in public restrooms there and defecating in the street is perfectly OK. The graveyard is the Ganges River and it's common to see bodies floating down the river or washed up on the shore being eaten by birds.

A year or two before I retired I was told that I was going to India for an assignment that I think was about a month long. At that point in my career, I had nothing to lose so I respectfully told my management team: "I'm 65 yrs old and too old to be going to India.". They respected my wishes.... I stayed in the US and remained healthy :-))

I clicked on this thread wondering what Gun Owners of America was doing in India.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program.

I had exactly the same thought when I saw the title of this thread. I'll admit that India is a place that I have never been and have absolutely no desire to ever go to. I guess I would put it barely one notch better than it's neighbor Pakistan, a place that I would refuse to ever step foot in.

I was in about the same stage of my career when my company told me I was requested to go to Jebel Ali our construction yard in the desert South of Dubai.
I told them I had seen enough 120-degree deserts and wild camels. I will only go to places that are green and warm. They can request all they want I will not go :) :) :)

When I was in the U.S. Navy, they took me to only the best spots🙄. Karachi , Pakistan was a real low spot. Horrible place unless you stay in the hotels. Shri Lanka was not much better. I was none too impressed by just about any place they decided we needed to go , except Australia. Western Australia is a magical place. I loved it.

I enjoyed my stay in Korea but not so much in Japan. Go figure. while working for the NWS I got sent to several classes on KCMO with no joy but then I got sent to Snowbird in Utah as the union rep for an NWS diversity seminar. I had a whole suite to myself for that three day stay. I thought it'd be nice if I could come back and bring the wife for a long weekend so I enquired on the rate for my room. $500 a day during the ski season and $350 a day during the off season. Dunno what kind of a deal Uncle Sam made for that shindig but I'm sure it was quite a tidy sum of the taxpayer's dollar. I think they had that entire resort locked up for that meeting. There must have been 250 to 300 people while I was there.

I never was the world traveler, but I’ve always found it Interesting to hear other people stories. I’ve been to England and really enjoyed it, went to San Miguel in the Philippines and sort of enjoyed it, the beer was good and the ladies accommodating, I’ve been to Hawaii, but never got a chance to actually enjoy it, and the rest of my time was spent somewhere along in the California coast, except for a brief three months in Bremerton, Washington. Here I’ve lived in South Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, and California. No exciting stories to tell about any of them.

Yes where the tourist go and live in India (and a lot of other countries) the hotels are nice. I would not trust the food there unless I buy it myself. And, yes you can smell India just before landing in Mumbai, a horrid smell too. In the 50 countries that I did jobs in, India is at the bottom of my list of countries to go back to.

Whether we have been there or not, one thing most of us will agree on is that as more East Indians move to the US, the US incrementally becomes more like East India.
