Not bad for a 6cyl. It was kinda a forgone conclusion when you build a race car to compete in a street class. Top 3 cars also on same lap like 1966 only then there wasn't a Ferrari in the group. The worst thing about the 1966 race is that Ken Miles wasn't declared the winner even though he crossed the line first. He had slowed down to give Ford their famous 1-2-3 picture and since one of the other cars had started further back on the grid the frogs in their infinate wisdom said it had traveled further and therefore won. I always have been under the impression the race started and finished at the line. Miles was killed shortly thereafter testing the J Car at Riverside Raceway. The Ford GT won overall 4 years from 1966 through 1969. The FIA proved they were euro trash after the second Ford runaway and they changed the rules outlawing the big block. Ford countered and brought the MKI small block back and won the next 2 years. The 1968 Gulf Mirage is really Ford GT and holds the record for the highest price ever paid for an American car 11 million. Have all of you submitted your name to buy one of the new GTs yet? It's only $400,000. A friend got one of the 2005 ones. It was a fun car to drive but nerve racking. Everybody wanted to race you or sit in your blind spot staring at it.
